Setting the table for Dinner

Seeking advice/ideas on making the table look a bit more festive on the big day.

We have a springtime themed tablecloth and Denby Imperial Blue crockery - it wouldn't be too hard to whip out a different tablecloth but I really struggle with making the Imperial Blue look Christmassy. Getting a whole new set of crockery is a non-starter (wish I'd thought of this when we picked it).

Any suggestions much appreciated Xmas Smile

Silver accents? Maybe a navy table cloth and some dark blue and silver accessories on the table. A bowl with some silver and blue baubles. Look on Pinterest for ideas for blue themed Christmas table decor.

We have the Denby Imperial blue too but I also have plain white China for occasions so use that at Christmas.

As Peridot says - I was about to mention silver.
If you haven't a navy table cloth, Dylon do a very good navy machine dye which you could perhaps use on an old plain cloth, or even an old sheet.
I like the idea of the bowl of silver baubles.
If you are a bit handy, you could spray some foliage silver (Not all sprays are equal, I would go for a highly metallic one, or it could look a bit grey). I have sprayed dried leaves and fresh ivy before, and it worked.
Chocolate coins come in silver, too, and I have scattered these across the table before.

Elbone, That's beautiful.
Did you make your candle holders?
Do you mind telling me what those three big 'discs' are, please? Imagine for hot dishes?
Lovely

Lovely

The big disks are just place mats ready for the meats etc. the veg were all on the sideboard.
I bought the wooden candle holders from eBay and the rocking horse one from Vinted. I got the pine cones and holly from the play area near my house 😂😂

I __scattered silver table confetti on a white table cloth which looked pretty and festive.

gardenmusic · 16/08/2024 14:52

Thank you, I love those place mats!
I was wondering if you had managed to saw through a branch to get the wooden candle holders. I have a lot of branches. (and very little ability)
Luckily I have enough greenery for the neighbourhood!

That’s so lovely @Elbone

I bought these reusable crackers last year to go with my Imperial Blue but would love for Denby to bring out a nice red to coordinate.

OP, if you look in Sainsburys they have a good range of crockery at a low price. Could you perhaps buy one item per week and save them for Christmas?

TheSandgroper · 18/08/2024 08:20

Gold would be brilliant. A quick look at Dunelm shows various bits and pieces that would look good.

Stompythedinosaur · 18/08/2024 09:39

I think blue can be Christmassy! I would go with a navy blue cloth under the blue plates and silver accents. It will be lovely!

IDontLikePinaColadas · 18/08/2024 09:46

We went for blue, whites and silvers last year too. Looked really lovely (at least we thought so anyway).

I googled the plates but not sure if yours are all blue or white/off white with blue edging?

I think I'd go with a cream tablecloth and, navy runner gold placemats and napkins. Then add some greenery as a centre piece (pics stolen off google)

I think we have the same Denby crockery. On Christmas Day we use red and blue cloth tartan runner and napkins (eBay purchase years ago) some greenery from the garden and red pillar candles.

For New Year we have blue and white napkins with rings (wedding present) with white candles and a silver runner. The dark blue setting further up the thread looks lovely though. I'm tempted by the candles!

StormingNorman · 26/08/2024 08:25

Gold accents would be lovely.

BiddyPop · 26/08/2024 10:47

Rebecca Robeson on YouTube did a blue themed table a few years ago. She's an interior designer with a big emphasis on Christmas.

I have a red cloth, with green embroidered table runners on it (embroidered by my sister and me 55 years ago, so a tradition to use them!). Then I use gold chargers under our dinner plates. I have a selection of crystal candlesticks with red candles, and an IKEA hanging ring of fairy lights over the table from which I hang red and gold baubles.

What about your chairs? Do you do anything?
I am tempted by little evergreen circlets that I have seen in various house-y magazines, but the chairs have fabric covers, and I am a little wary! Does anyone do this?
