Adult stocking filler ideas - all year round!

If you're anti Christmas until December or don't agree with stockings for adults, please scroll past.

Our adult children absolutely refuse not to have Christmas stockings, it wouldn't be Christmas without them apparently. Their main present is either something they've asked for or cash. I try to get a couple of other small gifts I know they'd like as a surprise but stockings are here to stay.
I know people have different approaches to stocking fillers, here are the criteria for ours:

Small enough to fit in a stocking (shop bought type not a sock).
Anywhere from 0 - £5 per gift (£0 could be a perfume/aftershave sample)
Must be practical, fun or consumable to avoid wastage.
Can be pre-owned (eg like-new books from a charity shop).
Usual ideas are foodstuffs, snacks, toiletries, DIY bits n bobs, stationery items. All get used but a bit dull, another reason for not leaving it too late to think of things.

I keep a 'Christmas note' on my phone and note ideas all year round. Generally I won't buy until later in the year, it's the ideas that are difficult. I sometimes pick up on things in conversation and add to the note to buy later (eg DS1's girlfriend mentioned how much she loved a certain chocolate bar - now in the list).
Obviously if I spot something that I probably wouldn't be able to get again - something unique or a real bargain, I will buy when I see them but don't go actively looking. Sometimes they are things I stumble across (I recently bought a trolley coin in aid of a charity one of my DCs supports when there was a stall in a service station).

Just been ordering a couple of slimline European usb adapters to take on holiday (see pic) and have ordered a few extra as stocking fillers. Which is what prompted me to start this thread. By starting early, collecting ideas even if not buying, I think you do so with a clearer mind and end up with better stocking fillers than leaving the thinking til December when there is so much else going on.
Not sure if anyone else will be interested in this thread but just in case, would be good to share ideas or things that you've seen that are not the usual everyday items.
I'd appreciate it we could keep this thread for adults stockings only please

Another adult stocking filler thread that might be useful here

I'm so grateful for all the suggestions on this thread, I never expected it to take off as it did. I am very hapoy with what I plan to put in adult stockings this year, and I think probably enough ideas to get me started next year!

Shamelessly bumping this thread as I have noticed a few adult stocking filler threads coming up

Thanks so much- I have gleaned a decent number of ideas now!

This was my favourite thread from last year….I’m hoping it gets resurrected again this year!!

OMGitsnotgood · 26/06/2025 07:50

@FinaleyDeeconsider it resurrected!

I have just orderered a friend a jigger (Spirit measure) - I like a strong drink but she doesn’t drink spirits and makes them almost undrinkably strong. Not for Christmas, just to take with me next time I visit but thought I’d pop it on this thread as a stocking filler idea.

So weird that this thread has popped up as I literally started to think about stocking yesterday! Going to review later!

MrsClausMaybe · 26/06/2025 07:57

I’ve started with stocking fillers!

For DH I have salted caramel (his favourite flavour) M&Ms. I checked the expiration date - March 2026!

Not a stocking stuffer but an idea - I picked DH up an Apple mouse for 10$ on Facebook Marketplace. If someone is an Apple user and doesn’t have a mouse, a secondhand one would be lovely and chunky in a stocking. (A new one would be wrapped under the tree!)

munchbunch12 · 26/06/2025 08:21

I posted this on the main pre Christmas thread, but for anyone who didn't see, Sainsbury's have the 4 Monty Bojangles bars below at half price with Nectar. Some were dated well into 2026.

Thank you!! Really looking forward to seeing what everyone has in mind for this year. My stockings were awesome last year thanks to all these great ideas.

So far I’ve thought of:

Maldon sea salt in a tin (instead of having a salt pig) or the Maldon pinch pots - 2 small, beautifully patterned tins with plain salt and smoked salt. About £10 for the set of two, they could also be split as two separate gifts.

The balancing game Cards V Gravity - I always get some kind of balancing game for one family member.

Pez for old times sake!

Black garlic - either a bulb, pot of paste or pot of cloves. It tastes incredible.

Eugy 3D animal puzzles - I often buy the same type of gift for all of us but in a theme that suits them (see also Pez). So this is really for my child but I’d get myself and their dad one too, of our favourite animals.

13gramm tealight holder/cover shadow play things - no idea how to describe it but they are gorgeous. You can get different themes eg cities, scenery etc. I was given one last year and it was so lovely I’m now getting them for others. You can get them on Amazon but here’s a link to their own website for more info.

Also another idea, these lovely little animal plasticine sets from Lagoon Group. The packaging is very pretty too.

Zeal do mug sized mini colanders for berries etc in lots of different colours

Myamoth · 26/06/2025 10:32

Ooooh great, one of my favourite threads from last year!! I'm not doing very well yet this year, so far all I have are some trolley tokens. I feel very behind 😁

FinaleyDee · 26/06/2025 13:39

More ideas from another thread that I’ll be buying (had a slow day, can you tell!):

  • Space masks: warning eye masks that you can also buy in packs and split.
  • Japan House butter knife, that can be used on cold butter.
  • match striker sticky pads - look really good for the candle lovers/smokers/fire starters
OMGitsnotgood · 26/06/2025 18:45

@Myamoth I don’t buy til nearer Christmas, I just start thinking of ideas for practical/enjoyable stuff before Christmas tat takes over tbe shops and my brain!

Just seen this and thought about what I would like... and the answer is seeds for the garden, because Winter is a sad time but the thought of seeds really helps. Last year I started Coleus indoors around January, but they are now planted out in the garden.

RealPearlDuck · 02/07/2025 08:39

I've been at a book store yesterday and already saw 2026 calendars, which reminded me of the way I made personalized desk calendars last year, with family pictures, photos of pets and everything! Here is a guide to make one if you want to, not everyone uses printed calendars now but it might be a great stocking filler idea for those who do.

Maray1967 · 05/07/2025 23:26

Last year we included a small bottle of good olive oil in DSs as he and GF had given up buying it due to the cost. We added a jar of pesto sauce and wrapped up a fancy bag of dried pasta.

Love the charger adapter - will get those this year for DSs.

I am pinching so many of these ideas, thank you. I love the tea light shadowplays, have found some very relevant to two people.
i’d never heard of black garlic, it I can find it I’ll put it in DH’s stocking (as his stocking fillers are harder to think of and I get to try it too!)

@LatteLady seeds are a favourite stocking filler of mine, there are so many to choose from. Or herb seeds for cooks even if they aren’t bit gardeners.

OP posts:
OMGitsnotgood · 06/07/2025 08:52

@RealPearlDuck we buy for someone who is difficult to buy for (but doesn’t want to stop, I’ve asked). They send me lots of photos of things tbey are doing during the year - a calendar would be a great idea using their own pics. More a main gift than a stocking fillers in our Christmas world but I know some people spend more on ‘stocking fillers’ and it has solved a perennial problem for me - thank you!

@Maray1967 I put olive oil in my DC’s stockings last year for the same reason. Great idea to add related items like pesto and pasta.

@CarridoesntlivehereanymoreI‘d not heard of Zeal before, they have some lovely stuff. Do they have regular sales do you know?

I put this on the other Christmas thread, but will put it here too for any ideas...

"Bit of a weird one, but does anyone know of any good liquid soaps for gardeners, preferably under £5? Thanks 🙏"
