Years ago on Boxing Day waiting to see who could spot the first holiday advert usually Pontinental or Butlins!
The start of new part works; crochet, handicrafts, car maintenance, or one of the a bit every week to build something random like the Taj Mahal
Mum's new catalog arriving Littlewoods Marshall Ward John Moores Kays is full of clothes you would never buy and homes that were nothing like your own!

I remember the holiday adverts starting, and a bit later on , the dfs sale .

I had a sudden flash back to the smell of those catalogues - my nan always had them.

New year and Boxing Day was always sales adverts on TV and showing queues of people. And a bare feeling house once all the cards and decorations had been taken down after your first day back at school.

Woolworths suddenly full of half price ramekins and Pyrex casserole dishes that you never saw in the shop before (ie brought in just for the 50% off sale)

The general feeling of meh when work and school loomed and there was no chocolate or cake left .

Magazines being full of diet or horoscopes .
Holiday adverts on TV

Trailers for series in January that I'd think "Oh that looks good..." but not getting round to watching them (and back in those days there was no iPlayer ! If you were lucky you might remember to set the video ) . Going into school/work and everyone saying Oh did you watch xyz , it was brilliant

January . Long draggy month . No money
New Years Resoloutions being a pain after Day 2 .
