HELP! Have I ruined everything?

It’s my first year doing Xmas dinner. Completely didn’t realise you were meant to defrost your turkey crown 48 hours before cooking. I put it in the fridge at 2pm today but hoping to eat dinner around 2pm Xmas day. Do you think it will be defrosted enough?

Take it out of the fridge to defrost on the side until bedtime, then put it in. It'll be fine. In our fridge it wouldn't defrost in that amount of time.

How big is it?

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 23/12/2023 14:44

Take it out of the fridge!

dementedpixie · 23/12/2023 14:45

Depends how big it is tbh. If your kitchen is quite cool I'd defrost out of the fridge and the put it in the fridge once it is less frozen

mrsbyers · 23/12/2023 14:45

If you’ve got a garage I’d leave it out in there rather than fridge

Have you got a meat thermometer? If you’re unsure of how defrosted it is before it goes in the oven then you might need to cook it for a bit longer and it might be handy to check the inner temp

Dotcheck · 23/12/2023 14:48

On the morning of, I would defrost ( wrapping in if plastic) in a sink or large bowl of warm ish water- keep changing the water. It will defrost in no time

Yes. Everything is ruined. Go directly to the pub, sink seven Vodka oranges, sing along to some Christmas songs and avoid greasy Dave at the bar trying to snog you under the Mistletoe. Only this spell will break the curse of the Ruined Dinner

Our garage is colder than our fridge 🙂

🤣🤣🤣 now that's my kind of problem solving.

Yeah I've done the same. But I do it most years, and just defrost it in the back porch, which has no heating, so is nearly as cold as a fridge but not quite. I've not given anyone food poisoning yet, so you should be fine. (not a guarantee)

You could use a food thermometer to make sure its up to temperature before serving if you are really concerned. Its should be at least 74 C in the thickest part of the flesh for safety.

Take it out of the fridge to defrost on the side until bedtime. If it is still solid at bedtime leave it out overnight as well

Bumblebeesince19 · 23/12/2023 15:31

Or forward this chain mail before midnight

Your garage is below 3°?! Chilly where you are!

It is indeed.

festivetinseling · 23/12/2023 16:06

I took ours out of the freezer and put it in the fridge 24 hours ago. It is still frozen completely solid and doesn't budge a millimetre when you prod it. I'm going to take it out this evening for a few hours to start it off, and then put it back in the fridge again before I go to bed.

stepintochristmas1 · 23/12/2023 16:10

If you don't have garage or porch , do have a fan ? The fast moving air will speed up defrosting .

stepintochristmas1 · 23/12/2023 16:13

Also do unwrap it and plonk in a roasting tray so that it doesn't leak everywhere .

MorrisZapp · 23/12/2023 16:13

Run it under the hot tap while crying, in the traditional manner

stepintochristmas1 · 23/12/2023 16:23

Ha I just noticed this is a spoof well done !
