Anyone else is wrapping hell?

It’s a bit cheeky of me to post this really, as I have just finished.

But my god.

I made the insane decision to save all the wrapping til my first day off work. I’ve just sat down now after starting at 9.30am.

I don’t even do fancy wrapping! There’s no ribbons, no bows, but it was such a slog.

I had this bizarre idea that I’d put some Christmas music on and wrap away, all festive. Now my entire body hurts and I have a paper cut.

And the kids will think Santa’s sodding elves did it all!

Solidarity to any one still in the trenches.

I did buy a proper heavy duty tape dispenser this year though which helped immensely. I mean, it broke the minute I opened it but I cobbled it back together with some bubble wrap and I feel like I’d marry it if I could right now.

The error you made is doing it sober. Kids in bed, wine open, earphones on, bedroom doors locked.

tealandteal · 21/12/2023 14:08

I blitzed through it in two sessions last night and the night before. You need a top quality, mess free snack of choice and something on the TV. DH has not done his yet but I have kindly put the tags, tape and scissors all in one place as I imagine he’ll do it when I’m out tonight.

Gnomegnomegnome · 21/12/2023 14:12

Wine helps and short bursts! Don’t save it all to do at once.

huuskymam · 21/12/2023 14:15

This is my first year not wrapping. I'm using huge gift bags instead. My kids are 22, 19 & 13 so all know what they're getting anyway. My grand daughters is going in a santa sack unwrapped, she's 3 months, not going to care.

I was going to say exactly this. I've been doing it in shorter bursts over the last few weeks and still can't bear the idea of finishing it off tonight 😂

Wine or Baileys are my wrapping beverages of choice, they're a reward for me doing it in the first place!

Floatinginatincan · 21/12/2023 14:19

I might start hiring out my husband. He loves the present shopping and the wrapping, wierdo!. I haven't wrapped a single thing in about 10 years. Some years, I'm just as surprised as the kids on the day to see what they got 😁

LenaLamont · 21/12/2023 14:20

I bought a weighted tape dispenser this year as well and I could hug it!

I usually wrap while watching my favourite christmas films. This year I had an audiobook on the go so I listened to that, which made the time go more quickly.

My ongoing sympathy for those in the trenches still.

HundredMilesAnHour · 21/12/2023 14:21

I have this afternoon off and am about to start my wrapping. Which is why I'm faffing on MN instead. I hate wrapping!!

MadCatLady27 · 21/12/2023 14:22

DH loves wrapping and it looks way better than mine that resemble a t rex doing it, so all bar his I get him to do 😂

No children yet but hopefully he will still love wrapping if we have them in the future. I hate doing it!

Jessforless · 21/12/2023 14:25

The ridiculous wrapping paper I bought from Sainsbury’s this year is annoying the hell out of me. It has four peel off stickers instead of plastic wrap and it’s giving me rage everytime I have to open a new roll.

Quornflakegirl · 21/12/2023 14:26

I whacked through it yesterday. It took me 3 hours and a bad neck afterward, such a crap task.

I have the couple to do tomorrow as they haven’t arrived.

Aposterhasnoname · 21/12/2023 14:26

I learnt this lesson well last year. This year I’ve done twi
presents per night for weeks. Down to my last four now.

londonmummy1966 · 21/12/2023 14:27

I've made a variety of drawstring bags and mini stockings this year from old clothes - no wrapping for me and tiny presents look great put in mini stockings and hung on the tree. Bonus is that the bags can be re used next year..

headcheffer · 21/12/2023 14:29

I've just done all of ours, apart from the kids stockings, while listening to a Board meeting at work Grin

JaninaDuszejko · 21/12/2023 14:31

Reuseable fabric gift bags are the answer to the wrapping question. You will thank me.

Lovelynames123 · 21/12/2023 14:31

I did the kids last week on my day off, have finished the rest today, years ago mine used to.
look like works of art but now just plain wrapping and into a (reused) gift bag! This is the first year of no one believing in my house so I'm very excited to finally get all the credit😂

SnowRoomAtTheInn · 21/12/2023 14:34

I did the lot last night. Took all evening,

I watched one shite film (‘Marry Me’ with J-Lo on Netflix - don’t bother!) and listened to three old school rap albums to get me through. I don’t drink anymore, so couldn’t blur time with a few glasses of vino, unfortunately.

My neck aches…but it’s done!

Jingleballs2 · 21/12/2023 14:39

I got mine done on Monday. Dc off school ill all the week before so no chance to get any done. I don't mind it as such, but managed to get a tiny piece of sellotape stuck at the back of my throat for the rest of the night 😬 not fun. Now riddled with covid so glad I'm sorted, apart from the last few things I've remembered are still in amazon boxes in the garage 🙄

Mirabai · 21/12/2023 14:40

So Father Christmas went eco last year and stocking presents were not wrapped in their pillow case. Such a liberation.

Baneofmyexistence · 21/12/2023 14:40

I always do mine watching The Holiday and Love Actually. I didn’t have that much to wrap to be fair. I like the wrapping more than the shopping!

Baneofmyexistence · 21/12/2023 14:41

Oh and I don’t wrap stocking presents because I can't be bothered. So that makes it quicker!

BigBundleOfFluff · 21/12/2023 14:43

They are so good!!!! I'm on my 3rd year of using mine. I do "properly" wrap presents that are non family ones. And the weighted tape dispenser I got (inspired by one of these threads) even made that a bit easier.

Ilovemyshed · 21/12/2023 14:47

All the crappety crap recyclable ribbon is extremely annoying. It's gift bags for me next year, I can't deal with the stress of ribbon that tears.

(Yes I know we should ALL be using better choices, doesn't stop me hating it, like the new Quality Street wrappers.)

Wanttobeok · 21/12/2023 14:47

I love wrapping presents and am sad I've not got any more to do!
