I need to find a jumper for DS' girlfriend (25). Easy-peasy, you'd think- but I am clueless here.

I have virtually no sense of fashion. I don't know where I should be looking- Jack Wills? Hollister? Somewhere more trendy?

She's a size 8 (I think. DS doesn't know) Works in an office, so something that would be suitable for that maybe? She usually wears a lot of gym wear (ex PT, ballerina) I've seen her wear pink and red (not together) and possibly pale blue. I don't think she'd wear something very frilly.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the 'right' place to shop? Budget around £50.

Why do you have to get a jumper? Clothes are quite tricky unless you know someone well.

My daughter is 21 and her favourite is Urban Outfitters. Plenty of choice under £50 here: Women's Knitwear | Cardigans + Jumpers | Urban Outfitters UK. I can't imagine her in River Island or FatFace to be honest! Though I did find Fat Face quite good when she was younger.

I asked my DS to find out what perfume his GF likes. He said "that's a good idea I'll buy her perfume"......so I am back to square one!

TerfTalking · 12/12/2023 16:04

My DD is 26, she wouldn’t be seen dead in River Island and stopped wearing it when she left her weekend job there at 19.

She has come full circle with Hollister and buys some of their dresses and trousers as the quality is pretty good. Oliver Bonas is a good shout and also Lulu Lemon or Sweatty Betty if she’s into gym wear.

Shodan · 12/12/2023 16:05

@DuploTrain I think it'll be fine- she knows me well enough to know that I don't take offence if gifts need to be changed. If I've happened to get something she likes, great. If not, she'll have the receipt and she can swap it for anything else she fancies- also great.

@GerardWay123 Cheeky monkey 😂It's been hard enough trying to get both my sons to give me some clues about what they might like, let alone ds1's girlfriend. I'd be v miffed if I'd come up with something on my own and he nicked the idea.

If she’s into the gym, what about a Stanley cup? They’re £40 and every influencer is using one.

Shodan · 12/12/2023 16:12

@nononocontact I had to Google that but I can confidently say that she's already got one (or something v similar). TBH I'm less confident about gym gear/accessories than the jumper.

As a 26 year old, I personally think your best bet is Zara or H&M. Other brands that are increasingly popular are Bershka and Abercrombie + Fitch and Hollister again.

Not a lot of women my age shop in River Island, New Look etc anymore, it's kind of lost its style for our age range, still feels rather 2014 (maybe not everyone, so not meaning to generalise, but definitely the women in my office in Bristol and London don't shop there and shop in the above)

Sweaty Betty and Lulu Lemon sell some lovely sweaters/knits. It’s not all gym gear. If you got her a gift from there and she didn’t like it, she’d definitely at least then be able to use the refund credit on stuff she wants/needs rather than risking a shop she might have zero interest in like River Island

lotuspocus · 12/12/2023 16:24

Cos or Arket, or Uniqlo or Community Clothing for something plainer

Frenchfancy · 12/12/2023 16:24

I would say Urban outfitters or possibly Mango.

ImANameChanger01 · 12/12/2023 16:29

Back again to say go for the Skims top that @Baxdream linked 😂
You absolutely cannot go wrong with it.
Looks plain but she’ll get it…

Shodan · 12/12/2023 16:49

It looks like we might have a winner! I sent DS the link to this https://www.asos.com/other-stories/other-stories-mock-neck-jumper-in-pink/prd/205563991#colourWayId-205564010 and he said yes, she'd like that.

So I'm going to go with that.

Many thanks everyone- &otherstories isn't a brand I was familiar with but when I looked there were loads of things I thought she might like, so even if she doesn't like this one she can exchange it.

I like sugarhill Brighton jumpers and they are about that price. Don’t think they are too frumpy.

Ruthietuthie · 12/12/2023 17:37

I really like the &OtherSTories one. That's a great choice.

Shodan · 12/12/2023 15:54

Lol 😂I did say I was clueless.

@Baxdream I think that's a bit t-shirty- DS has clarified it should be more jumpery (honestly it's the blind leading the blind in this house)

Could you get your son to chose as it sounds as though he has something in mind.
Good luck!

Notmetoo · 12/12/2023 17:45

Ah just seen you have chosen. Hope she likes it. And if not you can blame your son!😂

xyz111 · 12/12/2023 17:47

Not Hollister, it's for teenagers really. Zara is normally good.

fruitypancake · 12/12/2023 17:51

Oliver Bonas is v nice and quite trendy

bitofashit · 12/12/2023 18:02

Tbh I'm surprised he's asking you to get her a jumper, most people would rather choose their own clothes.

I'd go with an asos voucher.

Oh God this is like me and my DS. We've decided I'll give her £40 'to put toward something you'd really like'. I'll stick it in a box with a card under the tree so it's still something to unwrap. And a selection box.

OhComeOnFFS · 12/12/2023 18:43

I'd get her something for the gym from GymShark instead of a jumper.
