Secret Santa

If you do this at Xmas, how does it work? It’s been suggested we do this by an in law and some members of the family are unhappy/confused. It’s a good idea in that it means less general expense but if we all know who we are buying for it seems to defeat the purpose . We have a list of who is buying for whom which everyone has seen.

I do secret Santa with my brothers our dad tells us who we have so no one really knows. It works well for us as it means we can get one good present instead of lots of tat that no one really wants.

there are also websites you can sign up to that will randomly give you the person

I think that might work better . I shouldn’t have given the list out. I will know though!

We use Elfster in our family, either online or via an app.

Our parameters are set that you can't get yourself or your partner. The limit is on there and there's space to add general ideasor specific links. It works really well for us.

Huh? It’s not secret Santa if you all know who’s buying for who 😅 We use elfster so that no one knows.

We’re setting this up in my family next year (at last). I’m looking at Elfster which seems quite good.

We’re setting a €50 limit, for adults. Dc still get gifts until they’re 18/21/working (have to finalise the details) and then they will join in with the adults.

There's apps you can use. You enter everyone email addresses. You have the option make sure couples dont get each other. Everyone gets an email with their secret Santa person. You can add ideas of what you want or just leave it to fate.

We've done it for 3 years now. Limit is £50. It is so much better as everyone gets one decent thought out gift instead of a loads of bath sets and socks. We started it when my nephew was born as it was getting a bit much with siblings, partners and now kids were on the scene. Definitely less stressful than having to buy for loads of people.

Could you tell me the name of the app please? What sort of financial limit do you use?

We use this site. It works well as you can confirm budget and set up a wish list

https://www.drawnames.co.uk/

We use this too - we set a budget and you can put suggestions in of what you want as a present. Saves walking away with 4 Dove bath sets and tat.

We used drawnames. It's a website rather than an app. It was my SIL who set it up. Our limit is £50.
