Please recommend a perfume for DD (12)

She's young, I know, but wearing cheap body sprays I bought her on a whim and are a bit overpowering.

I'd like to get her her first proper perfume.

Because she's young, I'd like to get her something light and 'young' and feminine. Nothing too sickly or overpowering. She dances and is quite elegant in her movements (probably due to ballet).

Any recommendations?

My DD 12 likes miss Dior and alien goddess but she's absolutely mad on the Victoria secret sprays too

I used to love DKNY Be Delicious perfume. It’s light and subtle, like sort of apple/cucumber scented.

I loved this as a teen! Also throwing Lacoste - Touch of Pink into the mix.

changed1 · 09/12/2023 02:36

I've got my DD(11) princess by Vera Wang

XiCi · 09/12/2023 08:49

DD (12) likes Marc Jacobs Daisy and Miss Dior

Miss Dior has a 100ml body mist reduced to £42 at Boots which she may like if she uses body sprays.

Victoria Secret body sprays are really popular with girls that age and smell nice

decionsdecisions62 · 09/12/2023 08:55

I was going to say Daisy. Now she's 18 she's moved onto Dior.

WetBandits · 09/12/2023 08:58

I actually really like the Gwen Stefani Harajuku Lovers perfumes, and the bottles are adorable!

Can’t go wrong with the Britney ones, either.

idontlikealdi · 09/12/2023 09:23

Sol de Jeneiro, Victorias Secret

Anais Anais and White Linen are both lovely and light. They both feel "young" if that makes sense.

My mum bought me white linen ... possibly my first perfume. I still wear it occasionally because it reminds me of her and being a teen. Funny though ... a boyfriend once commented to me it smelt like 'granny perfume'. At the time everyone was wearing issue miyake's l'eau so I thought it just might not seem trendy to him.

My signature perfume was red delicious until they discontinued it 🤬

I don't think either of these are perfumes a teen would wear now. I used to wear anais anais as a teen in the late 80s but it smells very dated to me now

Colinfromaccounts · 09/12/2023 14:01

Ariana Grande cloud as others have said.
sol de janiero
I have a lot of nostalgia for Ralph Lauren perfume in the blue bottle and it still smells really fresh and young.
byredo is really trendy but maybe a bit complex
glossier you is lovely
Eilish by Billie Eilish also smells great
Burberry her is delicious
Kayali do some really nice scents that would be a good entryway into perfume, try pistachio or apple

NewSw19 · 09/12/2023 14:04

My dd is 12 -

She's got Ariana grande cloud and also Vera wang princess

She likes the perfume sprays too - again Ariana grande cloud and also the Superdrug layering lab mini bottles

CactusPeach · 09/12/2023 14:08

Ariana Grande - Thank you next is light and sweet, the blue one, I think it's cloud, is lovely too.

DKNY - be delicious is fresh, sweet and fruity.

dd also loves the Victoria Secret sprays but I don't know a specific scent.

JLO - Glow is clean and fresh and kind of soapy smelling

Marc Jacobs Daisy is a lovely bottle for a young girl, I'm not too sure on the scents though, I like Daisy Love Daze though, it's sort of similar to the Thank you next.

Artichoke88 · 09/12/2023 16:31

Chanel Chance Eau Tendre
Cerruti 1881
Clinique Happy
Gucci Bamboo
Zara Applejuice
Zara Spirited Romance

reluctantbrit · 09/12/2023 17:43

DD hates Daisy, she thinks it's too old for her.

She had twice Ariana Grande, currently uses Ari. She also has the vanilla shimmer body spray from Victoria Secrets.

Anais Anais is really a classic, I think it was around when I was a teen 30 years ago already.

BeansOnToast32 · 09/12/2023 18:30

I loved Lacoste Pink at that age! I still have a bottle that I use occasionally when I'm feeling nostalgic.

Rugbycomet · 09/12/2023 18:36

Any of Clarins eau de toilette. Youthful and light.

squeekychicken · 09/12/2023 18:58

My dd12 loves these
Sol de janeiro
Ariana grande
Victoria secret sprays

wednamenov · 09/12/2023 22:49

DD just won a raffle at a ceilidh tonight - with a huge bottle of CK One in it. 🤷‍♀️ 😆 She loves it. So I'm now thinking again.

Mirrormeback · 10/12/2023 05:23

CK one that's very 90's

It's very citrusy as I recall as I did buy it when it first came out last century. I did notice the other day it's still around as is Obsession which I also bought when it first came out which was very heavy and Anais anais which was very flowery.

Clearly I was your typical teen that wanted the latest trendy perfume. I suppose there weren't as many choices around back then. Oh god and White Musk from the Body Shop I had that too.

Zoflorabore · 10/12/2023 05:35

Hi op, my dd will be 13 in February and considers herself to be an expert in all things skincare and fragrance 😊

She has been wearing Ariana Grande perfumes for the last couple of years and has tried most of them but the newest one Mod is absolutely gorgeous and that’s her current fave.

She also loves the Sol De Janeiro yellow one and has 2 of the VS glitter sprays which are actually really subtle.

This year she is getting Moschino because she liked the “aesthetic” of the bottle, very important apparently!

I think this age group is still pretty easy to please fragrance wise and it’s only as they get older it becomes more evident which “type” of fragrance they like. I have always liked really strong perfume ie Angel/Alien/Flowerbomb where my best friend prefers pretty, delicate floral types.

im sure whatever you get her she will love.

Lifeasiknowitisout · 10/12/2023 05:37

Armani She is a good young fragrance. Not to pricy. It's an oldie but seems to always serve teenagers well.

Sol de Janerio body sprays are popular but they are body sprays and plenty of scents. Depends on what she likes. I find the one with the no.70 on too sickly sweet. But my 19 year old dd loves it. But they are body sprays not perfumes.

Popular ones are Arianna Grande Cloud, glossier you, lush super milk or turmeric latte, YSL babycat or libre (but then are quite heavy), burberry goddess, valentino born in roma.

If you are starting to look at Killian (as someone suggested) and other high end/niche brands you are looking at a couple of hundred pound for a decent size bottle. Of those ones, going on what you describe I would say Killian love dont be shy, Giardini de Toscano Bianco latte, perfum de marley Delina.

DarkDuvet · 10/12/2023 05:45

I know a 12 year old who chose herself Burberry Weekend with birthday money. It’s light and classy.

WomanFromTheNorth · 10/12/2023 07:08

TM1979 · 08/12/2023 23:35

Ariana Grande. That’s what my dd15 is getting.
Victorias secret also do lovely perfumes (apart from the sprays)
They have one called Bombshell and it’s gorgeous.

They do the Bombshell as a spray. Is that still nice? Asking as my nieces want some VS spray but I don't know which one to get?

onemoretine · 10/12/2023 07:27

My 12 year old asked for the perfume in the skull this year. I can't remember the name of it but I got her the one in the silver box and it's bloody lovely! I'm debating keeping it for myself 😂
