Is father christmas real?

9 year old dd just asked me, I kind of didn't answer, what do I say
I don't want to lie and she said she isn't sure.

Use the story of St Nick as a starting point.

Yes. Then go on to say Father Christmas is a traditional Christmas story, part of the fun of the season, but not real.

Don't lie to your children.

I always wrapped the presents from Santa in a different design paper to all the other presents.
One year I must have had a roll left over of Santa's gift wrap and placed in on top of my wardrobe.
My daughter, must have been about 6 or 7, spotted it and said "hang on, why is Santa's wrapping paper in your bedroom?" And I didn't think quick enough, plus I crumple and laugh when under pressure and having to lie, she immediately realised.
She asked if he was real, I laughed in panic and fessed up.
I asked her if she was really disappointed and her reply was
"I'm disappointed that you've been lying to me all these years"

I told my dd who is now 13 that if she doesn't believe, she doesn't get presents 🎁 she's playing along now 😂

Oh God.

We were in a cafe last week, and 5yo DD announced randomly in her foghorn voice, "Father Christmas isn't real. He is a lie grown-ups tell children to make them go to sleep on Christmas. And God isn't alive. And," witheringly, "Jesus is a FOSSIL."

So much for magic, eh. Thankfully there were no other children around.
