One of my kids has asked for an Air Up bottle for Christmas. Almost died when I saw the price of them though. Are they worth it??

My son bought one around four months ago and he uses it everyday! Even drinks more plain water now without the bottle too ie will go for water in a glass at home when he usually went for squash before!

The 'taste' is not as strong as I expected but it is quite natural and I was impressed after being sceptical to be honest!

@Cornishbelle thanks but didn't work. Bet it's only on full price stuff so will try it on some pods

ViolaSmart · 04/12/2023 20:38

Dd has had hers for a year and still loves it!

User3735 · 05/12/2023 01:14

Definitely not worth it. My DD begged for one for her birthday. I've never been able to taste anything other than water, I've tried endless pods and all the troubleshooting to no avail. Apparently a lot of people have taste that can't be tricked, but I am a massive sceptic about the whole thing. But that asside, my DD could only taste water at first too, but magically decided it was suddenly working, but I think she was just trying to convince herself. She was very pleased with it, and glad not to be an odd one out at school. But that novelty lasted about 2 weeks, and now she refuses to take it to school because it leaks. It is also very wide and slippy, hard for children to hold. I can't believe I went ahead and bought it after reading all the bad reviews myself tbh, but my DD didn't want anything else and I had warned her. Maybe she will listen to me next time I try to talk her out of something with bad reviews.

I honestly don't know what to do about this.
I can see us not putting the lid on well enough or something and it leaking.
I feel so reluctant to spend so much on a bloody water bottle

Mirrormeback · 05/12/2023 01:46

They're a trend just buy one as it's for Christmas so they don't get left out at school

Not worth it though really but then what crazy trend is at least you end with a water bottle

I do like the watermelon flavour though even though it tastes more like cucumber

CroccyWoccy · 05/12/2023 20:07

I got pestered for one and the novelty lasted 5 mins, last seen kicking around in the car footwell unloved.

slipperypenguin · 05/12/2023 20:50

Our 2DS love theres and drink so much more water than before. Yes if you don't put the lid on it leaks but honestly that's like most bottles that aren't aimed at toddlers

Carsarelife · 05/12/2023 20:56

Yes we have the metal one rather than the plastic one and it's used daily. Used for school and at weekends too. Got it last Xmas so been almost a year now

LostMySocks · 05/12/2023 20:56

DS had one for his birthday. 3 weeks later and he's not changed the pod. But he actually drinks from it.
Bottle is quite sturdy and he doesn't leave it lying around

wherethewildtbingsgo · 05/12/2023 21:25

Apparently they leak unless they are kept upright.

mangokiwi · 05/12/2023 21:46

Not worth it. DD got bored after a few weeks and the “flavour” is so weak you can barely tell it’s there, also runs out quickly.

TheFormidableMrsC · 05/12/2023 22:23

My son got one as a gift, I couldn't afford to buy one. He uses it for squash so it's no different to any other bottle. You can get dupes of the flavour pod things on Amazon for a lot less than the Air Up one. Otherwise it's just a bloody bottle 🤷🏻‍♀️

WhichPage · 05/12/2023 22:35

Totally the best water bottle DS has had.
Used daily since last Christmas.

DS puts soda stream fizzy plain water in his so it’s like pop.

Additionally as a picky eater I was sceptical that he would like the ‘taste’ but he has been adventurous with the ‘flavours’ and had moved the same direction with trying new foods over time and I do connect the two

Cowey · 06/12/2023 02:58

Agree it is expensive but it’s cost effective. Usually my daughter has gone through a couple of bottles by now, either broken, dropped or lost but she takes such good care of it because she loves it and uses it every day. We find the pods last longer than a few weeks (or she isn’t too bothered if they lose the taste abit).
agree with another pp about child wanting to fit in and have same things as friends. I too always wanted things my friends had and never was able to so it’s nice for me to get it for her and she seems to understand that it is more expensive and looks after it.

AhBiscuits · 06/12/2023 05:53

My 7 year old got one as a gift from grandma and she does love it and takes it to school. We haven't had any leaking issues.
