Decorating a Yule log

I’d love some new ideas for decorating a Yule log- I usually just dust with icing sugar although one year I made meringue mushrooms. Any pictures would be great!

I’d go simple icing sugar too tbh, although leaning towards the naff plastic Holly and Robin set because it reminds me of childhood Christmas.
I love these little snowmen though, but who has the time?!
Meringue mushrooms making is impressive.

This reminds me of the fabulous chestnut and chocolate Yule log my friends mum used to make, lovely, very rich but not too sweet. She always had a dusting of icing sugar and a couple of robins on it, the same robins every year, they were quite small so it looked loggish in proportion rather than twigish.

I’m doing a ‘tree stump cake’ rather than Yule log this year for something a little different.
