Sponsor an animal for 5 year old?

Going to try and be vague in case mum is on here.

Child who has loads of toys as they have a large and very loving family who always spoil them at Christmas.

They are currently obsessed with a particular animal. My local zoo type place offers sponsorship which includes a soft toy and a couple of entry tickets.

I can't work out if it's a good present for them or not - are they a bit too young? I can ask mum of course but I think she's pretty inundated with this type of question so it would be nice to just get it.

If its local to them or they can go visit yes its a great present especially if its the "in" animal.

As long as they don't think they'll actually get to bring the animal home (past experience) then it's a lovely present.

I mean if he sees the zoo tickets and the photo he will understand.

Is it local to them too? Will someone be willing to take him to visit? Does he already go to that place or a similar one (some families have season tickets to places)?

So it’s really an experience gift, not just a sponsorship. In that case, I think it works well.

What about a bracket from Fahlo? Postage can be steep but each bracelet tracks an animal and you can see where they are on a map at any time.

I think that’s a lovely idea. Did similar for DS2 who wanted a wombat for Christmas at a similar age!

It isn't that far from them no, and I'd be more than willing to take them (and have in the past!).

I'll have a look at the fahlo ones, that's reminded me my daughter was asking about those.

I've given this before- both a zoo and sponsoring a WWF animal - and it was very well received.

My DD at around 6 was given sponsorship of an elderly pony at a local sanctuary. She loved being able to visit him and feed him carrots (with the approval of the sanctuary, of course) and it was an amazing gift.
