Turkey

This Christmas I have DD ( grown up and living away ) here , we will have dinner for 3
We also have DS and his GF for the pre Christmas ( they’re going to her parents for actual Christmas )

My plan is to buy a fresh Turkey for Pre Christmas, cut it in half ( somehow ) freeze half for Actual Christmas , and cook half for Pre Christmas

I’m quite happy to cook twice as I like Christmas Day to smell of a roast Turkey and all the lovely extras

Is this a great cunning plan or daft ?

Why not chicken and get 2

SiennaMillar · 26/11/2023 18:51

Or two crowns? I just don’t see how you’d chop a Turkey in half decently. Maybe if you got it from a butcher and asked them to do it?

Chicken is our usual Sunday roast , so not special enough @Wolvesart
We like the dark meat best @SiennaMillar now if I could find a couple of Turkey thighs , that would do the trick !

I think you can buy Turkey legs

Understood, although we have chicken because we don’t like turkey. What makes it different is probably having pigs in blankets, cranberry and family guests

Sounds completely bonkers

I'd think of a less weird plan

DS GF will think you're completely mental

Growlybear83 · 27/11/2023 01:03

Why not buy two smaller turkeys and freeze the meat left over from the first one?

Mirrormeback · 27/11/2023 01:03

Get something cheaper like this for pre Christmas and freeze the leftovers for sandwiches later on

They'll just be happy to spend time with you

Lots of booze, games, films, crackers chilling out, walks

Enjoy and have fun just not with half a Turkey

catscalledbeanz · 27/11/2023 01:21

Sainsburys do turkey legs. Go hell for leather and buy two whole turkey legs op! Great meal for the two of you on the day and enough for a curry on Boxing Day- all with the dark meat you prefer!

We like legs too! With the right tools, I don’t think it would be difficult. It would probably require a saw. It’s much harder than a chicken.
I don’t think you can rely on fresh turkey drumsticks being on the shelves at the right time, but as they’re relatively cheap, it would probably be worth ordering from a butcher . Correct me if I’m wrong on availability in Sainsbury’s, anyone. Morrison’s have them very unpredictably.

Or meat shears, possibly

Applerumleandcustard · 27/11/2023 09:51

I had a look on YouTube , and it seems doable ( with sharp knives and poultry shears , thanks @WhatWouldJeevesDo )
