Presents for PIL

I really love my PIL, who have stepped up properly for me since DM died and DF went into a care home. They are with us for Christmas this year and I would love to get them some lovely presents. Don't mind if they are stocking fillers, as I will be doing stockings, or main ones: am going to get MIL some earrings, as I know her taste, I wouldn't say she was a jewellery wearer apart from that. Clothes seem a bit too personal, and they are flying to and from us, so liquids ie a good whisky are restricted.

Any ideas welcome!

Where in the world are you? And where are they flying from?

Might have a few ideas here but equally might be on a different continent and unavailable etc.

I love hearing when PIL step up and embrace, it's heartwarming to hear you have such a lovely extended family xx

@symbioticsoul they are so lovely, I am truly lucky to have them.

They're flying domestically, within the UK so no issues around availability if it's UK based. Thanks!

I think consumables and experiences are great gifts!

something like tickets to Chelsea flower show / a sporting event or tickets to the theatre for you all.

for stocking fillers some nice chocolates, miniature aftershave/perfume sets a good book you enjoyed, maybe a grow/make your own kit?

I'm just driving from Suffolk to Portsmouth this afternoon, I will post some ideas tonight, I haven't forgotten xx

Magazine subscription
Coffee bags or nice tea
Rechargeable hand warmers
National Trust gift card
Bath salts
Sara Miller pens
Photo frame
Chilly’s mug
Puzzle book

harriethoyle · 22/11/2023 11:50

Some great suggestions here, thank you. Magazine subscription I really like! My Mum used to love the Oldie (so did I TBH!) - but does that sound a bit rude?! "I'm getting you this magazine because you are OLD" 😂

It depends if they have a sense of humour or if they are sensitive about ageing. Only you can judge that one!

OMGitsnotgood · 22/11/2023 16:12

As close as I was to my late PILe, when they came to stay they were awful at asking for things. They were well fed and we always a had snacks available but they refused to ask for things! When they came at Christmas. I started to put snacks in their stockings (and other trips I'd put a basket in their room).
So small packs of peanuts; a miniature Christmas cake; wrapped biscuits; sweets, juice cartons etc.

Do they have any particular hobbies?
If one likes gardening, there’s a company called Bishy Barnabees that do seed collections Seeds

Emma Bridgewater mug
Quality hand cream
Nice note book
Magazine subscriptions
Velvetiser if you think they’d use one

True @Forgottenmyphone - they're delightful and great fun so I think we could make a joke of it!

Some lovely ideas, thank you everyone. I particularly like the seed collections @YorkieTheRabbit and MIL was very pleased when I planted and grew the bulbs she got me so that could be a good present for her 😀

I'm getting mine a digital photo frame, they're not too clued up on WhatsApp / photo sharing so I thought it'd be a nice way to send them photos of DC

BeaLola · 28/11/2023 11:45

I think it would be lovely to get tickets to do something with them even if it's not for this visit - spending time together and enjoying an event would be lovely .

Chelsea Fliwer show
Ballet
If in London or near a city a classical concert

Membership to picturehouse cinema if one near them

Afternoon tea vouchers - for their local M&S

Narcissi of daffodils sent via post in Spring

florentina1 · 28/11/2023 12:06

How about some bath soak from molton brown, kheils or Neil’s yard. My 70 year old. DH always ask for these

harriethoyle · 28/11/2023 13:12

@BeaLola I love the idea of a flower subscription. We've already plans for a weekend at the cricket for my PIL, he's a sports fanatic. MIL and I just drink prosecco and gossip 😂

Thank you all, some lovely ideas here - much appreciated.
