DS has asked for a clockwork toy as one of his presents from Santa. I’ve been having a look but all the ones I can find seem really poor quality and have very mixed reviews. Any thoughts?

He’s also asked for a treadmill… no idea what to do about that one!

Have you had a look on Etsy? Lots of handmade stuff on there. There's a colourful clockwork mouse that looks quite nice quality.

Some lovely ones here https://www.jesters.com/tin-toys/fairground-tin-toys.html

Those I can see on Etsy and on the link above say they are not toy and are for adult collectors only. He’s only 6!

I’m wondering whether this would fit the bill - especially now it’s reduced. It doesn’t have a key though and I think that’s what he imagines a clockwork toy being like. https://www.bigjigstoys.co.uk/products/mini-wind-up-tin-robots?variant=44328003764527&currency=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=CjwKCAiAu9yqBhBmEiwAHTx5p-buJktJge5aGoKZ4RjDLwMloWeN3bZUAwlML72EBMlFQ4Rf0mtpVhoCWU8QAvD_BwE

That just means he needs to be careful with it. It's not going to explode in his face because he's under 18. Presumably all he wants to do with it is turn the key and watch it go round?

Lots of the ones on Etsy look like these which judging by the Amazon reviews are cheap crap. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Toddmomy-Clockwork-Children-Christmas-Stocking/dp/B09L5WLY3W/ref=mp_s_a_1_15?keywords=wind+up+toys+for+kids&qid=1700238877&sr=8-15

Doesn’t it mean they won’t be CE/UKCA tested? That’s what I was assuming.

this one says it's suitable 3+, so might be okay?

PumpkinSoup21 · 17/11/2023 17:05

Oh those kovap ones are amazing. Mega pricey though aren’t they? I’ll have a look and see if there are second hand ones about. I think he might be happy with one without a key and that’s probably for the best as it will only get lost won’t it?
