Question for the hosts/cooks - what meals do you make before Christmas?

I get so focused on prepping for the big meal that I lose the will to cook dinners, or even think about meals on the couple of days before Christmas. But strangely my family and guests are not content to starve!

It’s also a bit harder to predict what people will feel like eating if they’ve been snacking on sweet stuff or taste testing as we bake.

This year I’d like to get a lasagne or shepherds pie in the freezer.

What do you eat on Christmas Eve?

We've had fajitas and nachos on Christmas Eve for at least the last 10 years. So easy.

I was thinking about this! I’m going to have a stack of burritos ready and wrapped in the freezer for when we get totally fed up of Turkey, ham and cheese. Also a stack of cheese and ham sandwiches buttered and ready to be pan fried for toasties some lunch. Then also a chicken curry and a sausage and lentil casserole. I plan to be able to barely cook the whole Christmas break!

Christmas Eve we have a party food buffet and it's all the nice festive ready made supermarket party food that you just sling in the oven.

@Mazuslongtoenail May I have the recipe for the Feta, Pistachio & Cranberry Wellington? It sounds delicious!

We always for an Indian meal on Xmas eve and did last year when we hosted. Xmas day morning was eggs on muffins and then Xmas dinner. Boxing Day was turkey and ham pie.

Fish on Christmas Eve. Nothing too huge, can even be chippy if we feel like it...

Christmas Eve we used to do pasta bake with festive shaped pasta, garlic bread and a green salad.

Fancying a change last year we cooked the ham (usually do that Boxing Day) and had that with bread, cheese, tomatoes and pickled cucumber.

This year thinking of falafel, humous, baba ganoush, salad, kebabs or a shepherds pie and spiced lentil pie with side salad.

It’s a variation of this https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/scandi-goats-cheese-sweet-potato-coulibiac

but I’ll use feta and add pistachios. I think I used the sweet potato last time but might lose it this time and up the seeds, pistachios and cranberries.

I can vouch that if you follow the recipe as it is, it still works really well. It was the hit of Christmas last year.
