HELP! Ideas for 14 year old DD who’s not into anything!!

My oldest is autistic, and not into anything, except minecraft and Roblox and we have an abundance of stuff relating to that! She’s not into make up, skin care (I get her the usual bits so she does at least wash her face!), jewellery, any specific music, clothes, anything much at all! She got a new phone and headphones for her birthday.

So far I’ve got her an air up bottle and heatless curlers, which I’ll do for her when she’s washed her hair. I’ll get her a wreck this journal as well, but aside from that I’m totally stumped! Her brother and sister are much easier to buy for!

LED lights for her room, gaming beanbag chair, weighted blanket. Tickets to something she'd enjoy?

Soft tactile clothes, an oodie or fleece throw.

Something calming and atmospheric for her room like a Lava lamp or salt rock lamp.

Can't help but already know this is me in a few years time lol. All 3 of my girls have asd oldest now 15 is into all the girly stuff so easy enough. My middle roblox super fan I'm currently selling all her unopened toys from the past few years on vinted as I officially give up trying to find new interests. We have bought all the shitty merchandise from China that she will absolutely adore and of course robux.

My boy sounds similar. As a stocking filler I got him some slime gel to clean his keyboard. Last year got him led lights that sync up to the colour of your screen.

My 14 year old hasn't expressed interest in anything. Shes getting a steam gift card, costa gift card and some costa merch to go with it, a hoodie, a B&BW spray, marshmallow smores kit and bubble tea gift plus money.

Younger one is into minceraft and roblox, but shes getting pokemon cards, nike jordans, new minecraft switch game, roblox gift card, marshmallow smores kit and bubble tea gift plus money.

Bit boring but there's not much point in me getting them things they dont want.

I know you said no jewel any fidget jewellery so it's more functional? I'm looking for a fidget ring at the minute

Crackery · 14/11/2023 06:46

Electric heated throw or water bottle?

Scrabblequeen · 14/11/2023 09:38

Ooooo….thank you all! She has many oodie type things and water bottles, but an electric blanket would be good. As would a lava lamp/salt lamp (didn’t know that was a thing!), and also fidget jewellery. Just looked up the new minecraft game as well for the switch so will get that as well.

Gift cards and money are her worst nightmare annoyingly, as she hates shopping as it’s very overwhelming! She’s so hard to buy for but there’s a good few ideas here, so thank you!

Are you me? My 14yo is the same except she is a big Taylor Swift fan and she already has EVERYTHING that's mentioned on other threads. We've no idea for a xmas present, plus it was her birthday last month so the things she wanted she got then. Following closely and bumping for ideas!

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 15/11/2023 05:50

Awww that's so good. Is she any way craft inclined? Crochet is very popular at the minute and there are heaps of YouTube teachers. Would or could you learn together to help her persist ? You could buy a hook and ball of wool for a few quid so it's no great expense if she doesn't. I'm a big crocheter and have been for many years and it's amazing for self regulation, fidgeting, anxiety etc.

B and m sell lava lamps. Actually they have a Minecraft one but you would need to research online to see if it looks good lit up etc www.bmstores.co.uk/products/minecraft-lava-lamp-385997

If not, argos also sell them.

whocaresmore · 15/11/2023 07:58

Possibly not a sensible suggestion as she may find it overwhelming but does she like the theatre at all? My DD now a bit older loved musicals so we have bought lots of tickets as presents over the years. Same for days out- any quieter places she likes to visit ?

Just be careful buying a salt lamp if you have a car. I was gutted to discover that salt lamps can be really dangerous for cats.

Driving lesson? These guys do half hour or hour lessons for children and young people. My son really enjoyed it.

Would an online subscription to one of those games work? There always seems to be another layer or level that my dc look for

Scrabblequeen · 15/11/2023 11:19

@Stevie77 It’s so hard isn’t it! I definitely end up buying her things for the sake of it sometimes, just so she’s got about the same as her siblings!

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel I picked her up a salt lamp in B&M yesterday! And also a moon lamp thing for her room……which looks peaceful!

She’s dyspraxic as well, so things with her hands are hard for her to master. I think she might find it a bit frustrating, but I’ll have a look and see!
