My daughter (19) is an avid heavy metal listener, and whilst she’s now an adult so I have reduced present buying heavily, I would really like to still make her a stocking that makes her smile.
She is an eclectic soul - heavy metal and collects vintage porcelain dolls, no interest in make up whatsoever, loves horses. I know nothing about heavy metal at all so I’m really stumped. She has patches already for her battle vest. Help!

Would she like any of the bits and bobs on the lifestyle section of Killstar?

Not sure what type of metal she is into, but there’s a film called Lords of Chaos which tells the origin story of the bands Mayhem and Burzum and all the controversy around the church burnings in Norway. You could get her a copy on DVD/BluRay.

You could either lean into the bands that she’s into - band T-shirts/hoodies, Displate of album covers (dependent on band), custom Etsy band stuff like coaster, mouse mat etc.

Or go for more generic music-lover. Good quality headphones, Alexa/HomePod etc.

I wouldn’t necessarily go for metal “lifestyle” type stuff as it’s so dependent on the individual. I have a teen who loves power metal and he would really hate the goth-crossover type stuff. For him it’s just the music. He’s always been really touched when I’ve done something specific to the bands, because it means I’ve remembered what he has played for me.

Which bands does she like? Can you remember any of the names?

housethatbuiltme · 05/11/2023 19:51

Define heavy metal?

Theres a huge difference between Black Sabbath (doom metal), Cannibal Corpse (death metal), Cradle of filth (black metal), The devil wears prada (metalcore), Limp Bizkit (nu metal), Bon Jovi (Hair metal), Metallica (thrash metal), Draonforce (power metal), Motley Crue (glam metal), Lorna Shore (deathcore), Rammstein (industrial metal) & Within Temptation (symphonic metal) for example but theres probably about 100 more genres of metal.

If you know theres a certain band she likes then I would go that route.

What do you mean by death metal? There's brutal death, old school death, blackened death, symphonic death, tech death, death grind, slam...

🤣😉

The Iron Maiden stamps that came out earlier this year might work? And can be used on letters if she isn’t fussed.
I have a lovely necklace made from horse shoe nails. Very heavy metal.

Saying heavy metal is a bit vague, there’s loads of subgenres and someone can be into certain genres/certain bands but not others.

Some of the suggestions on here are more general and lean towards rock or goth styles. Some metalheads might not like that.

My DH is a huge metalhead and certainly wouldn’t like anything more gothic, that’s more my style 😂
I usually get him band merch, such as t-shirts, hoodies etc. Rolling up a t-shirt for a stocking is an option if you know bands she likes. You can also get a lot of things like coasters, badges/pins, mugs etc for a lot of bands. Websites like EMP are ideal for this.

I also sometimes get him jewellery, if there’s any styles she likes. Chunky rings and Viking style jewellery can be popular.

He does play guitar so I occasionally buy plectrums/strings and so on. But I once got him a collection of guitar picks with printed band images/names on them for his stocking. These weren’t for using so could be a good option if you again know bands she likes.

Tickets for gigs can also be a good shout, as a lot of the bands aren’t mainstream they’re usually relatively inexpensive.

Moro93 · 05/11/2023 22:33

If she likes Iron Maiden there’s quite a lot of things. They have a comic book series, there’s also lots of jewellery with Eddie on it.

Moro93 · 05/11/2023 22:34

Oh, and you can beanie hats for a lot of bands on sites like EMP as well.

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 05/11/2023 22:46

@Chewbecca thank you - that's my DH Christmas present sorted and a little extra gift for my SIL too!

peskykiddds · 06/11/2023 00:30

Depends on the type of metal as others have said but fun stocking gifts I've got in the past include drumstick shaped pencils and a Darkthrone jigsaw puzzle 😬
Has she seem
