Savoury evening snacks

Writing this as my DH tucks into pate on toast 🤢

I'm 90% all about the chocolate but, on nights like tonight I fancy something savoury and I have NOTHING to snack on. My brain just rewound and remembered how I moaned last Christmas that I had endless tubs of chocolate, coins, panettone, cake but no savoury snacks.

DH is a crisp fiend but I don't share the same love unfortunately.

So what are your savour my snacks of choice that I can stock up on now for Christmas

I like to have something in to go with a pre dinner G&T or sherry, favourites include olives, 🫒🫒 cubes of cheese with celery salt, grilled calamari rings, 🦑🦑 toast fingers with Gentleman's Relish or lumpfish caviar, or tapenade or aubergine 🍆🍆 pâté.
When I'm super organised, I make up a mixture of olives, feta cheese cubes, dried tomatoes, and grilled artichokes in vinaigrette which lasts a few days.
🍸 🍸 🍸

I absolutely agree with you.
Does anyone remember the little garlic bread snacks?think they were from spar/costcutter or something years back?

GettingStuffed · 03/11/2023 23:16

Crisps, especially festive ones, last year Lidl did lobster cocktail which were lush
Bombay mix
Cheesy footballs
Mini cheddars
Party mix
Pretzels (if you can get to an eastern European supermarket theirs are better than the mainstream ones especially the bacon ones)
Twiglets

Forget about the sweet stuff

Impatientwino · 04/11/2023 00:01

These things are impossible to stop eating!

I've recently discovered Cheeselets. They're fabulous and almost too cheesy, if t'were possible.

they were delicious

Hibernatalie · 04/11/2023 09:18

Mini gherkins, cured meats, leftover cold cuts with chutney, cheese and biscuits, sausage rolls, peanuts, party food bits like chicken goujons, mozzarella sticks

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/11/2023 09:32

I like those salted broad beans - hard to find though.

Cheese and crackers- I recently discovered the Castello soft cheese with pineapple and it’s absolutely delicious.

Cheese and biscuits
Biscuits and cheese
Biscuits
Cheese

Or a combination of all of the above

Yes maybe something from this list 😃

Pretzels but polish ones they are the tastiest the others are a bit sweet which I'm not into. Cheese twists or variant flavours of with a bucket of dip.

AuntieMarys · 04/11/2023 09:48

I'm not a sweet person but LOVE cheese, decent crackers, dips. All year round, not just Xmas
Once a week I do a cheeseboard..this company do the best crackers. www.finecheese.co.uk/lemon-sea-salt-and-extra-virgin-olive-oil-crackers

Tesco do some salt and pepper broad beans - lush

If I eat crisps, cheese, nuts or peanut butter I'm giving myself a night of full on heartburn Sad
But maybe those salt'n'vinegar twirls ? I can only eat a few or they hurt the inside of my mouth.

Pistachio nuts would be my choice 100% and cope with the heartburn !

Ooooh I'm definitely more of a savoury person!

Marmite on toast
Celery and hummus
Toasted Crumpets with melted cheese
Cheese crackers and chutney
Soup in a mug
M&S truffle crisps

AtleastitsnotMonday · 04/11/2023 13:47

Home made pita chips, split your pita, cut into thin sticks, spray with oil, season (rock salt, garlic granules, paprika, chilli - what ever you like really. Bake until really crisp. Delicious.
I also do similar with chickpeas (I just rinse a can of chickpeas then dry well with kitchen roll).

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/11/2023 13:54

The sweet chilli broad beans sound good, as do the Tesco ones.

GettingOldWithoutStyle · 04/11/2023 19:49

Ooo broad beans sound good, and pitta chips, brilliant idea.

DH all over the cheese. He's like Wallace and Gromit 🤣

Love the rice snack things from Lidl.
Twiglets are a must at christmas.
mini poppadoms and dips.
Cheese straws/twists
mini home made sausage rolls

Pate and cheese are my go to items at Christmas.

DominiqueBernard · 04/11/2023 20:34

As no one has said it yet, cheese ;)

Cucumber sticks, cherry tomatoes, crackers with Marmite, Bombay mix, rice crackers. Cheese, peanut butter or Marmite on toast.

silvertoil · 04/11/2023 21:09

Tortilla chips and salsa - addictive

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/11/2023 08:23

Speaking of tortilla chips:
mango salsa - mango, red onion, red pepper, red chilli, lime juice and coriander

Philadelphia, sweet chilli sauce, coriander
