Santa always brings a pile of books in our house, it's something the children have come to expect and enjoy.

I have a very bright almost 5 year old who loves more old fashioned style stories and struggles with themes involving threat (finds watching Peter rabbit on TV scary). Any suggestions?

She still enjoys picture books bit also likes short chapter books. She has really enjoyed the twitches and My naughty little sister. She also likes Brambly hedge. She has asked for the Olga de Polga book.

Any picture or chapter books your similar age children have enjoyed?

Mirabelle & Isadora Moon books by Harriet Muncaster.

I think I'm going to get my 5yo DS The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson. The Works is doing a set of 7 Jill Tomlinson books for £12 I think. He and his brother also like the Rabbit & Bear books by Julian Gough.

My 7yo DS really likes books by Laura Ellen Anderson (Rainbow Grey series and Amelia Fang series). They are cute adventure stories of which we read a chapter or two together at bedtime.
