Help with VR headsets!

My 13yo really wants a VR headset for Christmas. Any recommendations?

Are Meta Quest an all inclusive device or do they have to attach to a console? A 2 or a 3 version - what's the difference??

We have a PS5 and I think they do a VR headset??

I've no idea where to start or what to choose!!

We actually went to smyths to try out VR today. We are going for meta quest 2. Hoping to get cheaper as new one coming out. The ps5 one is £££. The meta quest doesnt need device

My boyfriend has the PS one and finds it good. I find nd it really freaky!

My ds had a ps vr. It was very good but I found the leads untidy / a pain. It didnt get used much.

My ds now has the Quest 2. You just need a facebook account to connect it. He uses it quite often. It's independent so can be played anywhere. You can buy a lead for it and connect it to a pc to play steam games (though we've not been successful with this - maybe because the lead is expensive so we got a cheap one from elsewhere).

Ds has told me that the new quest that's coming out has better graphics (not sure on other differences) and the new psvr coming out has alot of technical improvements including eye movement sensors but it's much more expensive.

As far as im aware no longer need a facebook account for meta quest though dont count me on that. Still researching myself. We are probably going to get the meta 2 and then upgrade the strap. The new one is too expensive as a beginner to VR unless good black friday deal which is very unlikely
