Tablet for kids - recommendations please!

I'm looking to get a tablet for my kids' main Christmas present this year. Most use will actually be for homework purposes, at the moment we only have a super old ipad that just about serves us for accessing the four apps/web pages they use for homework weekly (primary school, so times tables and spellings etc). But they will of course get some game time/youtube kids rubbish allowance!
Any recommendations? We have android phones so I don't actually want an ipad. Would any of the amazon fires be good? Would like it to have some longevity so we aren't forking out for another in a year or so.

If you've landed on this page looking for recommendations, we've recently updated our best tablets for kids page, featuring recommended products from Apple, Amazon, Samsung, Lenovo and more, as tried and tested by real parents.
We hope you find this useful.

Amazon fires are terrible. Get a newer iPad

Samsung tablets are great. They use the android system so very compatible with lots of apps

Samsung galaxy tablets are good.

Kids fire tablets are great for younger kids but not for older kids imo.

We have a small Samsung tablet, it's really good.

Refurbished iPad if you are an iPhone family. Samsung if Android.

Kindle Fires are absolutely horrible, don’t waste your money.

My youngest has a Samsung 8inch I really like it and a BobJ Silicon cover. It bounces!

DO NOT get an Amazon Fire. They are as slow as the wheels of time and even if you persevere with it, it will randomly die one day as though it was written into the hard drive.

iPad every time.

My kids are 7 and 5 and love their Amazon Fires! Never had any trouble and such good value for money - got them for £55 each on Prime day.
