Gift ideas for 17 yr DD

I'm in need of inspiration for my 17yr old DD.

Very tricky to buy for. For this reason she likes to choose her own clothes, skin care and makeup. Doesn't wear jelewery. Her hobbies are crochet and knitting and doesnt need anything for that ( apparently 🙄😂)

The only ideas I can come up with so far are

Spotify subscription ( she listens to it all the time)
Watch
Some really nice pillows for her bed, like an up grade of what she has - she loves her bed and pillows😆

She really doesnt need stuff, so I was thinking of a trip/day out. Any suggestions would be fantastic thank you.

Silk pillowcase is definitely good. I’ve good one from John Lewis for teen DD last Christmas after reading on MN and she loves it, also helps with hair.
How about theatre or concert tickets? Also some stationery or even personalized one ?

imip · 21/09/2023 06:56

Oh yes, personalised stationary! I got my daughter a diary from papier last year - worth signing up as they have deals.

Tickets for something (theatre/concert/festival) would be a nice present, but at her age I just wanted money. I loved clothes - still do - and all I wanted was to be able to choose and buy my own things. I’ve always been particular about clothes/beauty/home items, and if anyone gave me a gift, I would look at it in terms of how much it cost and what that could have bought me. I’m more grateful now, but still choosy!

Just a suggestion - my mum never really got my style and stuff when I was a teen so I was kinda like urgh she won't get I will just ask for money.

But what I did appreciate when i was i beliebe 16 at the time was her saying look let's go on a girls shopping trip, pick the stuff you like and I'll pay for it so it won't be a surprise on Xmas day but I wanna spend time with you and see what you like.

It ended up being really fun - I remember us getting impromptu free makeup looks at the makeup counters and I was glad she made the effort. On Xmas day i was pleased with everything I had and I had some really pleasant surprises too- it turned out she went back to blue banana after our trip and pointed some stuff out to the staff there to say that was what I bought before can they help her pick stuff for Christmas.

Since then we have done the shopping trips several times x

I will have a look at the john lewis ones thanks. Stationary is a good shout too, she loves it. I never buy her choose her clothes as shes 5 foot 10 and very particular about what she wears, so yes, I usually just giver her money for those, or go on a shopping trip together every now and then.

Spotify subscription is really perfect. I'm too mean to buy one for myself but I'd love one, the ads are so annoying.

Pinchaperfect · 25/09/2023 08:24

@RogueFemale me too! I hate the adverts but just carry on with them, she uses it all the time, so it'd be a good thing for her not to have the ads
