Dinosaur gifts

Hoping someone will be able to help out with dinosaur gifts for Christmas for 6yo.

He's always been dino daft and isn't into anything else really. However, this poses a problem of trying to find gifts that he doesn't already have and I think we've exhausted most things now without getting too repetitive.

What dinosaur gifts have others got for their kids? I'm hoping there is something out there we haven't thought of!

Dinosaur poo? Coperalite or something. Million year old insect in amber (small ones not too expensive). Dino shark tooth? You’ve probably already done these but my DS loved them at that age.

OMGitsnotgood · 10/09/2023 11:49

Excavation kit.
Jigsaw
3D wooden puzzles

I bought my dino mad nephew a model that walked and roared but that was years ago.

Pants & socks
Bedding
lampshades

NuffSaidSam · 10/09/2023 11:51

Sleepover at the NHM. Maybe move to dinosaur experiences if he has all the merch already!

NuffSaidSam · 10/09/2023 11:52

Could get a dinosaur sleeping bag and dinosaur PJ's/slippers for something to open on the day.

Sherlockspearls · 10/09/2023 12:08

Mmm, never really thought of experience type presents as he seemed a bit young before but one of those or a show could be a good idea! Then the dino poo and bits and bobs as a stocking filler/ little gift, as most small boys he thinks anything to do with poo is hilarious....

Light up bottle
Blankie Tails
Guess Who? dinosaur edition
Lego Jurassic world

persisted · 10/09/2023 13:22

Inflatable dinosaur costume. They're amazing.

Finchgold · 10/09/2023 16:01

I also have a Dino lover.

Has he got a dinosaur head torch? or one of the ikea big Dino soft toys? Are there any more unusual Dino species he doesn’t have that you could get from schleich? I spotted Dino Guess Who in the NHM shop. Dinosaur Brain Box is another good game. Resurrection Dinosaur kits are good, you make the wooden jigsaw skeleton then layer in coloured clay. Usborne Build Your Own Dinosaur Sticker books are fun.

Nagado · 10/09/2023 16:13

Smyths are doing a hungry hippos type game with dinosaurs instead of hippos.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 10/09/2023 16:24

A book about paleo art was a surprising hit with my own dinosaur fan (aimed at adults but it inspired him and his sister to have their own attempt).

There is a great dinosaur memory game with skeletons on Amazon. Comes in a little bag.

Eugy craft kits, they do several dinosaurs and my 5 year old managed to build a pterodon with minimal help last night. The spinosaurus is on my christmas list.

Playmobil dino sets. Ours still get played with even tho dc1 is now 8.

Lonely planet kids do a lovely book about dinosaurs and where they've been found around the world. It still gets pulled out lots.

The biggest random hit for both my two last year were diplodocus egg cups. The idea of dippy eggs in dippy just appealed.

We bought this for DS's last birthday, as he also loves volcanos:

For Christmas we've bought tickets to the Titanosaur exhibit at the National History Museum before it closes in January.

Sherlockspearls · 10/09/2023 17:05

Thanks for all the suggestions, there's several I'll be looking up!
@Finchgold is there anywhere in particular you got the resurrection kit from?
Would love to do the NHM sleepover but it would have to wait till next year as he's below the minimum age. It would also have to be part of a bigger trip as we're in Scotland.
There's some really great ideas on here though - knew mumsnet would come up with a few gems!
@Dinosauratemydaffodils the lonely planet book sounds good, is it quite imfo heavy or would a 6yo be able to enjoy it either with a parent or independently?

Light-up dinosaur bath lights: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0B3RRWMPM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?smid=A17NQMJC8PYADN&th=1
We have these, they're great.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 10/09/2023 18:43

@Sherlockspearls Dc1 must have been 4 going on 5 when I bought it him (from a T Rex exhibition in Edinburgh in Jan 2020) and he spent a lot of time pouring over it by himself as well as bringing it to us. We did a lot of "travel by map" in lockdown and it was a staple resource.

Have you been to Skye to see the fossil footprints?

Ilovelurchers · 10/09/2023 18:57

Dinosaur Top Trumps as a stocking filler if he hasn't got it? Top Trumps is actually a genuinely fun game I think - we play it quite competitively and we hate board games etc generally - on fact my daughter and my husband believe they use "strategy"!

Finchgold · 10/09/2023 21:20

Resurrection dinosaurs were a gift. Just check and they’re unavailable on Amazon just now. I’ve seen them in museum shops before but can’t find them online.

Stompythedinosaur · 11/09/2023 10:44

This book is beautiful, bought for my dino mad dd when she was 4 and she still gets it out now at age 12.

Encyclopedia Prehistorica Dinosaurs: The Definitive Pop-Up https://amzn.eu/d/5auMVys

Sherlockspearls · 11/09/2023 17:50

@Stompythedinosaur that looks like it could be a good shout possibly paired with the book @Dinosauratemydaffodils mentioned!
On a side note dinosauratemydaffodils we haven't been to Skye to see them I think its around 4 hours ish from where we are (east coast) so I think it would have to be part of a bigger trip. However, we were wondering about taking the eldest (8) to see the standing stones up north as he was fascinated by them when he learnt about them in school, could maybe kill two birds with one stone.... let me just find my thinking cap!

@Sommerled the bingo looks good, we had a light but it mysteriously broke 🤔no one has admitted to the crime yet lol.

Howareu · 12/09/2023 06:56

My kids loved excavation kits where they have to dig ‘fossils’ out 😃

Sherlockspearls · 12/09/2023 07:57

@Justhereforthechristmasthreads got to love a sale! Think he would enjoy something like that.

sunshinenshower · 12/09/2023 08:13

We are going down the Dinosaur experience route this year as we've got so much dino related stuff already

Toys wise though he has loved:

Hot wheels City track with Dino - he has since taken an interest in toys cars too thanks to this toy

Schleich Volcano related play sets

Dino bike & helmet

Excavation kits - we've gone through dozens and always such a hit with him
