As always, I'm struggling to think of things for DP. I have my usual nice bottle of whisky idea but can't think of anything else. I just thought that I would make a thread where we can share any ideas or previous success ideas Smile

Around Father’s Day I got some adverts for a beer tap. They’re really pricey, more than I’d spend on my own DH, but I reckon they’re perfect for someone who spends a bit more. I didn’t know they existed prior to that!

Just bought BIL a stackers personalised travel watch box as he likes his watches and travels a lot for work. From Lisa Angel.

AlwaysFoldingWashing · 03/09/2023 11:55

Thanks for this. The men in my family are always the most difficult to buy for! I usually go with aftershave that I know they wear as it means it will be used and its something tipi don't often treat yourself to

ChippyTea16 · 04/09/2023 08:04

Some things that have previously gone down well with husband/brother/dad:

coffee beans from local place
leg pillow
uni qlo warm hoody (fleece lined one)
heated blanket
fleece lined socks (slipper socks)
whisky
nice whisky glass
Lego
cycling kit - eg winter socks, neck snood thing
rum
massage gun
Aftershave and matching shower gel
tangle teeze hairbrush (random I know!)
wash bag
Warm fleece jumper (that DH would never have ordered for himself but loves to wear when it’s cold in winter!)
m&s fleece dressing gown

for this year for DH I’m looking at getting

new backpack for work
new water bottles
tickets to a gig
coffee beans

Rocknrollstar · 04/09/2023 08:15

DH loves his bat detector and his weather station. (Both gifts)
I often order him a box of cheeses as he is the only one in the house who eats cheese.
Fleece lined check shirt which he wears as a jacket.

lavenderjump · 04/09/2023 09:12

A few ideas that have previously gone down well with DH;

Travel mug
Meat Thermometer pen
Gym tops/socks

A voucher for an experience is always a nice gift- concert, theatre, fancy restaurant, weekend away, afternoon tea, escape room, comedy show etc

I came across an item the other day, that I previously didn't know was a thing. From the reviews I read about it, it seems that loads of blokes think it's fantastic. I got the impression that most reviews are from Americans though, so I don't know if that has an influence on the apparent enthusiasm for this piece of kit but it could well do.

Anyway, it's called Bug-a-Salt and it's a plastic gun, akin to a nerf gun, that shoots grains of salt, obviously at high velocity, the intended target being flies and other insect pests. It appears to be very effective and seems to be the type of thing that many men enjoy or have fun using.

Might be a bit too specific, because I imagine you'd need to be particularly bothered by pests to consider wanting or using it. Then again, someone might have a man in their life who they know would love it and it could actually be quite useful. So I just thought I'd mention it here as an idea as I guess, like me, not everyone would know about it.

ReeseWitherfork · 04/09/2023 12:53

@Spyral this is great share thanks, definitely a few men in my life that have irrational issues with flies. But where does the salt go?! Just on the floor??

Blixem · 04/09/2023 13:25

Hits for DH have been

coffee machine
milk frother (to go with the coffee machine)
Biltong box from Billies and tong (to make your own biltong)
biltong cutter

I'll add others when I think of them but these are probably the top ones.

Glad it's a helpful suggestion.

The gun shoots a very small amount of salt each time & is hardly noticeable, according to what I've seen & read about it.

I'm going to get DH converse low tops. I bought him high tops for his birthday and he loves them.

Also going to look on Displate and get him a star wars one.

He doesn't drink coffee or anything like that and is always hot so big jumpers etc are no good. He does like neck oil beer, and I got him a 4 pack for his birthday so may buy some more of that

SussexLass87 · 04/09/2023 19:52

Always love these threads.

I got a great tip from a previous one to buy a nicer / expensive version of something everyday that they wouldn't usually spend money on. An upgrade of their gloves, watch, scarf.

Made me realise DH had had the same backpack since he was 21! Now, he has a much nicer Herschel backpack for work.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 04/09/2023 19:54

Royal mint do some cool coin collection, and depending on budget you can buy them in all different metals.

I got DH star wars ones

AnneButNotHathaway · 05/09/2023 07:58

Licenses or subscriptions to useful software have been a hit with DP! Depending on your DH's interests could be a program for automated photo editing or a video editing software, maybe a fashion app or a business management software, etc.

ToddlerSAHM · 05/09/2023 10:40

I ask dp what he wants for his main present now so that I know that I’m not going to be wasting money and he will be getting something that he really wants!! Last year it was a camera bag and this year he’s asked for a REISS hoodie that I’m hoping will still be on sale when I have the money to buy it 🤞😅
Then I get a range of smaller gifts and last years favourites were a travel mug that looks like a camera lens, bath bombs, jumbo flumps, a big selection box of kinder chocolate, Lambs Rum, 2 T-shirts, Rick and Morty slippers and Parma violets. This year I’ll probably get him more Lambs Rum and a nice wine (I’ve already got him a wine book).

My dad usually asks for a cd (but his birthday is in December too so it depends if there’s one or two that he wants) or a book (but he got one for Father’s Day this year). Last year he asked for a neck pillow so I got him that. I’m not sure what he’s going to ask for this year yet but I’ll get him that along with the usual edible treats and novelty gifts. I find it quite hard to think of things to get him 😩

Then we’ve got dps brother, step-dad and grandad to shop for too 🙈😂

WeirdPookah · 05/09/2023 11:17

Qwertee

I like this website, loads of different fandoms, limited edition runs of tshirts.

NegativeCreeep · 05/09/2023 21:05

I know it’s expensive, and wouldn’t normally have splashed out like this, but a paddle board went down very well with my DH

Blixem · 06/09/2023 14:29

Dh has decided he'd like a massage gun this year. He did have one from amazon that was about £40 but it wasn't great so I've been researching and think I'll go for the HoMedics Pro Power one.
