Telescope for 5 year old

DD5 is really interested in space and already has quite a few spacey toys. She loves the planetarium and I think she'd like a telescope for Christmas. We live near areas where we can get away from light pollution. Does anyone have any telescope recommendations? Trying to walk the tightrope between getting a "proper" that will actually work and last a few years but also doesn't cost a fortune

Ds13 still has his telescope from his 6th birthday. What’s your budget? For any good but cheap telescope I’d recommend a celestron or a skywatcher. We still use ds’s skywatcher and it’s 7 years old!

This is a similar model:

I know you can get cheaper but you need a minimum 130 mm aperture and I’d recommend a Newtonian.

Sky Watcher Explorer 130 Telescope

The Sky Watcher Explorer 130 Telescope is a great starter telescope that can easily be upgraded. View the PicStop range of beginner telescopes

Thank you I'll have a wee look at these models. That one linked looks fabulous but is a bit pricey for me

I looked at telescopes for my DD last year. Didn’t end up getting one as the ones I came across that were less expensive had bad reviews and the others were out of my price range.

I think your dd will get more out of a decent set of binoculars for star gazing than a cheap telescope.

Telescopes are not really suitable for younger kids, they are tricky to set up and big to store. The ones aimed at kids are next to useless. You can see a lot with decent binoculars.

Agree with this. Binoculars would be much better.

Be VERY careful that they don't use telescope or binoculars and look at the sun it can really damage eyesight.
