I love all of these traditions.

On the lead up to Christmas we go and visit Father Christmas somewhere. We take a drive one night in the week before Christmas to look at the lights around our town.

We go for breakfast with my mum, brother, sister and their partners and all the children on Christmas eve in Christmas jumpers and then if the weather is ok we either go to a big park close to home or the beach to get some energy off the kids.

Me and ds will bake biscuits ready to leave out for Father Christmas that night, we go to Christmas eve mass and then come home and watch a Christmas film. We lay out the treats for Father Christmas and the reindeers, take a family picture on a timer in front of the Christmas tree in our pjs. We read the night before Christmas before bed together downstairs and take DS to bed.
After DS is asleep and we have brought all the presents are sorted DH and I have a bottle of red wine together and then head to bed earlyish ready for the early start with DS.

I love Christmas so much.

I love reading it everyone’s traditions and think everyone is right to really enjoy these early years. With the teen years it’s really hard to keep up traditions so make the memories while you can !!

Love reading threads like this!

Some of ours are the kids choosing a new decoration each year. I had in my head that they'd take them when they leave home, and would have a box full of decorations. But not sure they'll want fish, bacon, astronauts etc etc on their trees...you never know! I love how mad the selection of decorations is now.

They have their own tree in the playroom that they lovingly (and er, creatively?!) decorate each year. They love it.

We also have a list on the fridge of Christmas food idea / baking suggestions and they love adding to it with what they'd like.

They love getting one of those little boxes of cereal in the stocking each year, and scoffing them whilst we cook breakfast. Last year we put a bag of their favourite crisps in the stocking, and my DH in a fit of festive madness let them eat their crisps for breakfast. They thought it was SO funny, they're already talking about if we'll let them do that again! 😄

Creating these little traditions in our family has been so joyful...especially now they're a bit older and are so used to them.
