jamrolypolyandcustard · 17/08/2023 08:38

Just wanting to get started early 😂 in the Christmas mood after booking our Santa Claus visit.

Any ideas for partners stocking fillers and again for my little boy who's 5?

Thank you ☺️

For DH I bought the pickled onion set from the bargains thread. Use this code for 20% off.

Stockings are always a good place to slip in stuff that they need anyway, so:

Bubble bath
Colouring pens/pencils
Sketch pad/colouring book
Sports equipment (tennis balls/goalie gloves/shin pads/ping pong bats/swimming googles etc. - anything he needs)
Pants/Socks (character ones because they're from Santa)
Gloves/Hat/Scarf
Books
Sweets/Chocolate coins
School supplies (glue sticks/pencil case/calculator etc)
Playdoh/clay
Craft bits
A few small toys (cars/little Lego set/figures etc)
PJ's/Slippers
T-Shirt/Jumper

This is for your DS, but actually quite a few of those suitable for DP too.

Both my kids and dh love trying new food so they always get sweets from around the world (either ordered online or picked up when travelling).
Dh usually gets a noodle bag or two as well.
Everyone in our house gets a book in their stocking as well as a wind up toy to race between courses at dinner.
Also chocolate oranges are mandatory.

For the kids

Playmobil or other toy blind bags
Small craft set for the kids to do whilst breakfast is being made
Bath bombs or bubble bath
Socks
Schleich or Papo figures. At 8 dc1 still loves his knights and dinosaur collection. Dc2 collects Schleich unicorn foals.
A small soft toy to sit at the top.
A comic
New toothbrush and toothpaste
A box of plasters (usually the Rex London ones).
A top trumps game or other small card game.
A poppit
A new Christmas decoration

For dh

Beer
Beef Jerky or similar
Socks
Toothbrush and different toothpaste (last year I found a citrus one which was surprisingly nice)
Something Grinch related
Shaving gel
Gloves
Nice scarf
Tshirt

Last year for my DH, he got some of that black charcoal face mask stuff that you peel off and it removes all of your blocked pores, Swedish fish, beard oil, Japanese Kit Kats (they come in the most unusual flavours), a golf glove and tees, a pop socket for the back of his phone, a couple of memory cards, some lip salve, O’keefes foot cream and some bbq sauce (it sounds mental but it was like a rub thing with smoked cherries in a glass bottle that he really wanted to try but wouldn’t spend £8 on).

I’m doing a stocking for a three year old, so perhaps a bit young for you, but he’s got a bubble wand, washable felt tips, a roll of colouring paper from IKEA with an sea theme, some polished stones and fossils from Etsy and a book (which we’ll obviously read with him) about what they are, some giant marbles, some bath toys that light up and start flashing when they’re in the water, a big bottle of Matey bubble bath all to himself (he loves a bubble bath and always wants more bubbles), some spokie dokies for his bike wheels that flash (not that he rides his bike in the dark, but it will make him happy). He loves nature and plants, so have got him cress seeds, seeds for carrots in different colours, seeds for those fern things that close up when you touch them and a ‘grow your own‘ Venus flytrap. He’s got a few other stocking bits as well, but I’ve lost track a bit!

DH and I exchange stockings as our main gifts.
This year's DH stocking so far:
A pair of Saxx pants (£££ but apparently the absolute best pants in that whole wide world so he gets a pair whenever it's a gift giving occasion)
A nice leather belt
A small jellycat amusable related to an in joke
A fancy bookmark

DS is 4 and his stocking so far:
Glitter glue tubs
Mini kite
Small Lego set
Slime of some kind
Schleich animals, think I'll go marine this year as last year's snowy animals (reindeer, penguin, polar bear) look very uncomfortable in the bath 🙈
Chocolate buttons (I've learned I hate the faff and mess of foil on choc coins!)

We started stockings last year that hang on the back of their bedroom door as dd asked if we could start a new tradition. Dh had in his American foods as he likes that stuff. I found I think its BP petrol stations have an American section with like cream soda Dr Pepper and such. I don’t spend much on the stockings as they are only fun things but maybe £5 worth in each.

jamrolypolyandcustard · 17/08/2023 21:03

Amazing ideas thank you so much everyone!!

The only thing I had on the list so far is for DS, I got him as it was reduced this foam that is just like shaving foam but turns your bath different colours and for DP some American chip spice, he's from Hull and we ended up discovering they sell them in Tesco (I think it's the same as Nando's peri chip seasoning and he says it's not) 😁

Chocolate coins are always a must for DS, or even better a giant one (they do them in Starbucks) all year round but he's too busy eyeing up the cakes to notice yet 🤣

My post should have said they sell them in Heron just a small enough tub to pop in your stocking 😂

My kids always get gloves or socks in theirs, depending what has been lost or worn out

sixtiesbaby88 · 17/08/2023 21:10

A set of metal straws in a case for travelling

doodlejump1980 · 17/08/2023 21:30

I always put a festive scratch card into my dh’s stocking

AnneButNotHathaway · 18/08/2023 05:51

funny socks
glowing stickers
coloring calendars
crayons
tiny plushie
magnetic building kit

YuliaJollyberry · 18/08/2023 15:08

A lot we find in our stockings has already been mentioned. We too have either a wind up/pull back toy for racing or smalll musical instrument each to play a festive tune together (winner/most in tune chooses the mornings festive playlist). These are re-used and rotated over the years.

Some of the other things in ours:
A shiny coin in amongst the chocolate ones for the children.
Something long and thin in the leg section- the year of the very long box of Jaffa cakes sticking a long way out was a good one.
Always something new to learn - magic trick, harmonica, juggling balls sort of things for children.
Everyone gets a drink, children a fancier small juice carton or small can pop, adults a little Christmas cheer often a bottle craft beer/ale for dh sometimes small bottle of spirit.
Sugar mouse or choc mice
Poking out the top a candy cane or lolly, small hollow chocolate Santa, and dh without fail gets a jar of humbugs in place of the small plush toy in the children’s.

Hibernatalie · 18/08/2023 23:48

DH - a bottle of hot sauce, a burger press, small bottle of booze, chocolate coins, scratch card, socks, gloves, hat, beard balm, hand cream, bath bomb, sunglasses, glasses case, bottle opener, aftershave, fudge, pack of cards, other card game like Uno, nice tea or coffee

DS - top trumps, toothbrush, bath bomb, colouring pens, blue tak, post it notes, book, bath toy/ rubber duck, scratch card, bubbles, bath crayon, water pistol, swimming goggles

Hibernatalie · 18/08/2023 23:49

Biggest stocking hit for us last year was a whoopee cushion!
