Are the yoto players any good? I have a toddler who I think might like it. Can you share the book cards or is it one time use? Ie. If I got my brothers kid one too could they share books?

My twins have one each. They swap cards regularly. I think they are great. You also have an app on your phone which means I can play them in my phone and I can also play them on the Yoto machines through the app, even when the card isn’t in the machine. They listen to them at bedtime and are usually asleep within 10 mins.

painochocolate · 11/08/2023 20:48

Ooh thank you. Do you have the mini one?

They are great, my kids share all the cards no issues. Also you can get blank cards and put your own content on (or download the audio from YouTube Peppa pig etc and put that on instead.) They are very well used in our house.

Love ours. Have a 3 and a 5 yo who listen to them for hours, car journeys have been so much better since they've both had their own players. Would recommend the mini as better battery life and easier to charge in the car or when on holiday. You could physically swap the cards with your nephew no problem.

Dontsparethehorses · 11/08/2023 20:51

Both my kids have one - you can get make your own cards which is easiest way for you and your sister to share. Once a card has been put in the player it shows on your app so you can use that to play it even if you don’t have the card. I would
highly recommend them and both mine use them every night and morning, the daily radio and lullabies are great too.

Dontsparethehorses · 11/08/2023 20:52

Just to say you can also record your own audio and put on cards. My kids love it when grandparents etc record a story and I put it on a card for them - really special ❤️

Aw thank you all!

I've just bought one for my two year old and he loves it! Really impressed with the podcasts and radio stations that are included on the app.

NoLostCause · 11/08/2023 21:29

They're great. My 4yo loves his. So many cards and it will last for years as there's so much content, as well as the ability to personalise more with make your own cards. We've also found the nightlight function really helpful (don't think this is available on the mini?). We have the light set to red overnight and then when it gets to an acceptable morning time it goes green. He also loves the Yoto daily feature.

modgepodge · 11/08/2023 21:35

They’re fab. We actually have 2 😂 a big one which is used as a gro clock/night light and for listening before bed/early mornings, and a mini which is better for travel.

you can share cards between players which are on the same account, eg siblings or both my daughter’s ones. If you give a card to someone who’s player is on a different account it will work in their player, but disappear from your app. It will reappear when you put it back in yours though. It’s essentially like a cd so only one account has access at a time.

if you lose cards, you can make copies on MYO. Second hand cards also sell for a reasonable % of the original cost, so if you choose some your kid doesn’t like it’s not the end of the world.

highly recommend, in case you can’t tell!! If you want a discount code (which also gives me some points) PM me x

HiAlisonItsCookie · 12/08/2023 11:54

I'd absolutely recommend! We have a big one but I've contemplated getting a travel one. And it is, we're going to use the Yoto app on the tablet. We use ours every day. You can use them for white noise, podcasts, kids radio, sleep music and wellbeing stuff, there's all sorts of cbeebies stuff on the app.

painochocolate · 12/08/2023 11:55

Can you record your own using the mini one? Money is a bit tight so I think I'd go for the mini

They are fab! There are a wide range of stories, my kids also love yoto radio. I also put music on make your own cards for them to listen to, using either mp3s I've bought or cds I've ripped and put on there

TwinMum89 · 12/08/2023 13:19

My twins have the full sized one. I like having the screen and also use them as clocks.

You do the recording on your phone and upload to cards to play on the mini.

the mini has all the same functions as the original except the nightlight I think (and the most recent big one also has a temperature sensor too I think).

Thanks for this thread OP, I've been looking at the series 3 for my daughter and based on these comments I'm go ahead and get it for Christmas

MileyWiley · 13/08/2023 13:49

We got my eldest a Yoto player (original) Christmas 2021 when she had just turned 6. She’s used it every night since. It’s the best value present I’ve ever bought for her, and it was a whim last minute buy. However, I wouldn’t buy one for my 3 year old. I’d buy her a Tonie as a I think they are more suited to under 5s.

Can you record your own stories on the Tonie?

mintich · 14/08/2023 16:11

No don't get a Tonie, you'll be wishing you had got a yoto. There are plenty of cards for under 5s

User3735 · 15/08/2023 23:06

We've had ours for a few years and they get daily use. We have an original and two minis, I usually recommend the minis to people buying new, easier to charge if you want to travel with it or take it camping and more versatile, however, my two actually rarely use the minis and share the original instead for some reason. They listen to the daily podcast on it every morning and every night and it's very educational. They are always telling me random facts they have learned from it. The music cards are great for toddlers, we mostly used to just listen to music. But now mine prefer the factual cards like the Ladybird Audio Adventures. My grandchildren have them and I think they're great especially for car journey and getting off to sleep. Also good for family to be able to buy the cards as presents .They really like the factual ones as well.

LittleBrownJug · 15/08/2023 23:33

Bought my daughter the mini on a bit of a whim last Christmas - she was 4.5. Absolutely best present I ever bought her & she’s used it almost every day since. Loves the daily radio feature too. Got some headphones which are great for travel. Her favourite card is Winnie the Pooh but there are loads of great ones out there.
