I’m about 1/4 of the way through yet another knitted Nativity Set (started in June) which will as usual be for the Gdcs’ school Christmas raffle - it always seems to go down well.
That’s in between non 🎄projects.

The first time I made one (for Gdcs) I only discovered the pattern in about mid September (courtesy of a MNer) so it was a bit of a rush to get it finished for the beginning of December.

Thank you for the tip about them sliding about @bushtailadventures. Your stockings are beautiful - I love the mix of fabrics.

After consulting some other Christmas aficionados I'm going to do three shorter strings and I've tested the pouches - they're the perfect size for a Celebration or Heroes chocolate.

Instead of Xmas cards I’m giving these out, some in frames some in hoops. I also bought a snow globe last year that I can put a cross stitch portrait in.

Thanks, that's handy to know. So you can't see any of the pattern through on the white side of the sheets? Maybe it depends how dark the patterns are, as in the normal Superstack, some showed through and others didn't.

15cm square would be fine, except that I need to make several items to put on a card, and the whole thing just gets very big that way. I tried it out at 15cm last night to see, and the whole thing scaled up is just too big. So either I have to find 10cm paper, or I have to fold the 15cm stuff down to 10cm first - preferably without then cutting it, although that might mess up the patterned/plain aspect if I just leave it folded. I'll have to experiment.

I like the blue patterns as well, but they aren't so good for Santas!!

Took me ages to dig it out as it wasn't with the Christmas decorations. It's actually very variable depending on the design. Basically ones with a mainly white design show through the worst. Many white photographs attached so you can see.

Thanks very much! It looks like i'll have to see if there are enough good patterns in the new book that don't show through, or my Santas will look like they have measles or something, depending on what the pattern on the other side is like :)

Not exactly crafts, but all 4 of my Christmas vodkas are underway now. My allotment raspberries are autumn fruiting, so I've only just picked enough to start that one. The others are rhubarb, gooseberry (new one for this year) and rosehip (which has a vaguely medicinal tang to it!).

I quite fancied the knitted nativity as a project, but I couldn't get the oomph to do it in spring ("it's ages until Christmas!"), and now I have multiple friends having babies so I'm going to be knitting cardis instead!

I'm half tempted to knit some just in white, lemon, or aqua and have a stock ready, but that doesn't feel quite the same as knitting especially for a particular baby...

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/08/2023 11:42

In terms of Christmas crafts, I usually do a small cross stitch but not until November or December. I have five or six now, I should really think about framing them or doing something with them so they can be displayed.

I can’t knit, crochet or sew and hopeless with arts and crafts but I love reading this thread and the pics, so impressive!

Don’t know whether it counts as a craft, but for some time I’ve been saving jars for a mega-batch of Delia’s luscious mincemeat. I shall be making it once we’re into the 2nd half of September and looking forward to making a 🐷of myself on homemade mince pies. Dh will be assisting with even more sheer piggery than even I am capable of. 🙂

I am going to pick blackberries tomorrow for BlackBerry Brandy.
Then Marmalade Gin ( the Goodhousekeeping recipe) and Raspberry gin.

Trumpton · 03/09/2023 15:26
