Hello all. First ever post here go me šŸ˜†

anyway yes I’m thinking of the dreaded bearded man already.

my son is or shall I say will be 9 at Christmas (Dec 23rd baby) and we always do a big gift and a couple small ones for Christmas.

both me and him are struggling this year on what he would like as a big gift. He would love an electric scooter as all his friends have them but as they are illegal we really don’t want to get him one as he will be the unlucky one to get it taken off him knowing his luck šŸ˜† and obviously, they’re illegal šŸ˜‚

he has a bmx and a Xbox which he doesn’t play option. We’re struggling for ideas.

what did or do your boys like/liked at this age? Any ideas please šŸ™

Its 22 July! Go out and play don't spend the summer racking your brains on what to buy at Christmas.

Red Letter activity?

Is there any sport that your DS likes?

Tour of favourite ground? Could you organise him to be a mascot? Some clubs charge but hopefully not all.

Could you tell us a little more about things he likes?

inappropriateraspberry · 22/07/2023 19:07

Give it time and see what he's into nearer the time. Summer isn't even over yet!

Cornflowers35 · 22/07/2023 19:08

@littleripper I've done most of my DD's already. And for her birthday (February). šŸ™

I like to spread the cost and if I see something she'll like I get it and put it aside.

It's the Christmas board. We talk about Christmas all year here. Just avoid it if you aren't interested!

We’re all poorly with Norovirus so we’re chilling and I’m thinking šŸ¤” perfect time to do some thinking and put pen to paper

You’re on the Christmas board. People have all sorts of reasons for planning early, from wanting to budget and save to lack of time later in the year to just a wish to get organised.

OP, at that age my son would have liked-
big Lego set
football shirt
(electric) guitar
kindle
trainers
football tickets
stadium tour

My thoughts exactly!

thank you. He’s not in to sport but is a very outdoors person. He loves to fish and goes fishing with his dad once a year to France for a week. I was thinking new fishing gear as he needs a new fishing bed but he doesn’t think that’s very exciting šŸ˜†

Hi OP, our DS’ are birthday twins! Mine is 9 at the moment (10 this year) - is your DS into football? What about a couple of football strips / new football boots / something along those lines? What about a red letter day as someone above mentioned - we got DS a helicopter ride a few years ago to go with DH and he loved it. What about a TV for his bedroom? New headphones?

MrsPerfect12 · 22/07/2023 19:15

My kids have electric scooters. If that's what he wants I'd buy that.
PS I had no idea they're illegal šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜‚

Ahh such a good date. My boy loves having his birthday so close to Christmas although last year had to throw him a summer garden party šŸ˜‚

no not into football or any sports. I’ve not heard of red letter day. The helicopter ride sounds amazing 🤩

They are illegal to ride on public roads, pavements and cycle lanes. You can own one and it can be used on private land.

I was looking at the experience route this year for my 9 & 11yos. So far I’m looking at skiing/snowboarding lessons, I’m trying to figure out the logistics as the nearest indoor snow slopes are over an hour away.

Im also looking at driving experiences. There are a few options from them actually driving themselves to being a passenger in a fancy car. They also do famous TV car experiences where you can ride in cars like the bat mobile or Bumblebee from transformers.

Im also going to look at concerts and Comic-Cons.

And the privilage show up to show their ignorance... I'm so glad you are fortunate enough to not have to budget or plan major expenditures but most of us are not you.

littleripper · 24/07/2023 22:12

Sorry I thought I was in chat! Hope you get sorted :)

Tricky isn’t it!
we got ours football goals in the past but this year I’m stumped ! Maybe a chromebook. Luckily he still likes soft toys and joke stuff so that will fill the sack
