Schleich / Animal Play mat / rug

👋 Hello. Have any of you previously owned a Schleich safari or farm playmat or a similar type of farm play mat / rug for your little ones to play with their animals on?

I had added this to our Christmas list a while ago, but it’s quite a large item, although rolls up as it’s a thin rug, so I just wanted to hear from anyone to see how much their children actually played with something like this.

thank you

Haven't had the schleich playrugs but can highly recommend the mellissa and doug ones and also some good old fake grass. Gdg has the m&d and some grass from The field toy company, she has a paddock and a field. She got them at 2, she's just turned 7 and she's had so much use from them and will do for another few years, they're in fab condition so will get donated eventually.

Just to add the grass ones aren't cheap, but they've had all sorts living on their fields, zoo animals, playmobil, schleich horses, lols and currently pokemon world.

I think it very much depends on the child. Both my girls love animal small world play and will play with their Schleich for hours and make very involved fantasy worlds and animal family sagas. They are 10 and 7 and have always ignored any buildings/stables I’ve bought! Although will happily use magnatiles to make stables or boxes as part of the workd. Wish I’d worked out earlier to just buy the animals rather than sets with buildings (Especially in the playmobil years!)

We had a play table for a few years which had habitats printed on it which we inherited from a neighbour. It took up a lot of space and sometimes was used but more often than not they’d end up playing on the floor next to it!

We got our zoo mat from PlaymatsUk for our sons animal collection. Not cheap but well worth it. I would highly recommend.

We also added the Papo sets like this one https://amzn.eu/d/7IIlI8u the other half of this and the polar habitat. They are amazing the figures fit great and my son was over the moon.

All still played with regularly with minor wear and tear considering he's had them from 2yr old and he's 5 now!

We got the Melissa and Doug one - road and fields with a river on it too. Got it for third(?) birthday and still plays with it now aged 7.

Sometimes it's a farm or zoo, sometimes pony paddocks, sometimes lies on it to read, sometimes it's got a giant traffic jam of toy cars!

I bought some green felt by the metre and stuck it to an mdf board (combination of ova glue and then stapled taut on the underside)

Board is then on 4 wooden boxes to raise it up

It has been various farms, a battlefield, airport etc over the years. Currently my 9 year old has a complicated hay baling operation going on and the farmer may have lost the sheep due to a fence falling over

Ours is 1.2M by 1.2M
Can be stored on its side when he has sleepovers (or pushed under the bed)

Thank you for the comments! We have a ridiculous amount of Schleich animals, but ours currently get played with on magnetic tiles like one of the posters above has said. Lots of great alternative ideas here! Thank you

We have a Schliech one I’ve been looking to sell. The cat used it as a scratching post so the underside is a bit unattractive but it doesn’t effect the actual use.
pm if you’d like to discuss.
