No Christmas food for me!

I’ve had an upset stomach since the 18th December it’s. Just as my stomach has recovered I’ve caught a nasty cold. I have completely lost my sense of taste and smell.

Just having a pity party here, as I’ve missed out on all the Christmas food. ☹️

you may want to take a covid test

talkingmorenonsense · 29/12/2022 22:27

I did one and it was negative. Do you think I should do another one?

it maybe worth taking another. You can always redo a Christmas meal on a Sunday :)

GettingStuffed · 30/12/2022 17:16

I've been is a similar situation, I've been diagnosed with chest infection and a viral infection. On the plus size I've lost a fair bit of weight

BashfulClam · 30/12/2022 18:19

Have a Christmas re-do. Morrisons had turkeys yesterday (frozen)

I suspect that newer strains aren't even being picked up on lft now

Mulhollandmagoo · 30/12/2022 18:54

Get yourself to a supermarket! Best time to get it, It's all reduced 🤣

Whatthechicken · 30/12/2022 19:45

Same here. I’ve had Covid since Xmas eve and I’ve had no appetite. I’ve not been drinking, eating very much or doing anything apart from sleeping. I’ve lost half a stone already. TBF I do need to drink less and eat less - so even when I’m feeling better - I’m using this initial weight loss as a motivator for being a bit healthier in the new year…I’ve not missed drinking as much I thought I would have. Shame about the crappy Xmas though.

sorry you’re feeling poorly OP - plan a lovely Sunday dinner into the new year to make up for a bit of it.

One Christmas Day at the Wolseley everyone else tucked into lobster, Christmas Turkey, Wiener schnitzel, and all I could eat was carrots.

Muststopeating · 30/12/2022 21:26

I've been ill since middle Decmeber. First with a cough/cold that also wiped out taste and smell and now with a tummy bug.

We had two Christmases a week apart and I couldn't enjoy the food at either (and I LOVE food).

Have 3 small children (eldest is 5) and all the Christmas prep, concerts etc, stuck in with snow in between time plus they've all been sick at different times. So no resting for me but my goodness I've needed it.

I am a broken human... can I join the pity party! I just want to crawl up in bed for a week.

Aftersevens · 30/12/2022 22:28

This was me last year, so I really feel for you. After cooking for 12 at my house and not eating much because I was rushing around, I got sick on Boxing Day and kissed all the subsequent parties where I would have been a guest. Up until NYE when I entertained at mine again 😂
This year was much better. Hopefully next year will be better for you 🤞

Yes. I got COVID and taste and smell went.

it came back…Thankfully! But if it’s not a normal flu symptom then take a test.

watingroom2 · 31/12/2022 00:57

Does it matter if it is covid? Avoid people, Stay home and keep yourself snug, get yourself well.

As for missing out on food - it's depressing... but this too will pass.

kiwiiem · 31/12/2022 01:56

I’m in the same boat, I haven’t even opened Christmas presents yet, Christmas cards for myself, haven’t pulled my cracker etc and we’re planning another Christmas at a later date.

I had a tooth out 3 days before Christmas and despite me complaining about another tooth my dentist made the other tooth sound like less of a big deal and told me we could wait until after Christmas to take it out. Spoiler alert, I can’t chew on that tooth completely and found that out after hours of agony on Christmas Eve.

snugglyblanket · 31/12/2022 10:59

Same here. We were all ill over Christmas. I was the only one who tested positive on lft but all had same symptoms so likely we all had covid.
Smell & taste went for a couple of days but thankfully came back quickly. Last year I lost it completely & it took months to come back so I couldn't taste any of last year's Christmas dinner either, we ended up doing an extra Christmas dinner in summer.
We made the decision to postpone our big family meal this year so we are having it for New Year instead. No need to completely miss out, do it again when you are well. Hope you feel better soon.

It’s overrated

straight to a clean January

Dillydollydingdong · 31/12/2022 12:24

Just think of all the weight you won't gain!

Bromley4goof · 31/12/2022 12:37

I got sick on Christmas Eve with Covid and it totally ruined Christmas and New Year. I tried to isolate but impossible in a small flat, now DS1 14 has it and both DCs are blaming me. We have not been able to see either family as both elderly grandparents are vulnerable and my sister has been over from abroad and my kids have not able to see her. We were looking forward to Christmas after a difficult year, partly why I didn’t get my booster in. PITY PARTY round mine.

talkingmorenonsense · 01/01/2023 13:42

We're having a roast today, with all the trimmings.

Can I join the pity party? Gastroenteritis since 19th December, zero appetite, no food on Christmas day. Still very icky and tired. Good luck all!
