Christmas Dinner

Went to an awful lot of bother to host and cook the christmas dinner in our house for the in laws. 18 people. Was happy to do it. Took a bit of of effort: cleaning, shopping, prepping, cooking etc. Most of 2 days work really. All went well.

Same crowd had arranged to go to sister in laws the next day for a follow up get together, only to find she had full Christmas dinnner with trimmings all over again.

I know I should be grateful for a lovely meal with family but somehow feel irritated. I'm thinking why didn't she just do the dinner in the first place and save us the hassle. And if I am really honest feel a little upstaged after all that effort.

Yeah, that’s a bit weird. I’d it’s any consolation, I’m sure people enjoyed yours more, because twice in two days is way too much. No way would I want to eat Christmas dinner again in Boxing Day.

I dont think this would bother me, unless people kept saying 'this turkey is better' and 'arent these roasties how they should be done'

This used to happen in my family all the time. I don't see the issue.

Oh we always have two days of full on roast dinners at Xmas. Usually a different meat on day two, but sometimes identical.

Why do you feel up staged?

DD34 · 27/12/2022 18:03

Not sure. I have no rational for the irritation at all. But yet I am feeling annoyed. If it was re-using leftovers or even a different roast I wouldn't even pass a thought on it.

Did anyone in the group comment on the fact it was another Xmas dinner?
