Non delivered cake

I ordered a personalised Christmas cake at the start of December to be sent from England to Ireland. Have done this for the past 14 years. As far as I know never any issues and the person has received the cake. Used a different company one year as difficulties.

My DM rang the recipient today and they said no, no cake delivered (was expected on 22nd December) yet. I’ve never chased them or I’ve either noticed or not an email delivery confirmation. I check the website today and it says “you’ll be notified by email when it’s being delivered (DPD)”. Nothing was sent to me.

Taking this into consideration surely the company looks at its orders and if any issues it emails or rings you (no email).

Have tried to email and ring them today but of course they’re closed for Christmas now!

Am I justified in being a bit pissed off about this?

DPD have had, at the last count, four goes to deliver a package of treats from Fortnums to a friend of mine. It was definitely going to happen today. It didn’t - so now the next date they say they will try is the 28th. I’m not holding my breath.

Parcel delivery seems to have been a total, nightmare this Christmas, @GonnaGetGoingReturns.

This year posting from Ireland to England and vice versa is subject to an endless fuss of customs checks. Brexit.

Thanks for the feedback @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius and @rattlemehearties.

I just wish that this company (Bakerdays) would have contacted me if there were any issues re Brexit/customs etc. As far as I know, there weren’t issues all the year before I ordered with them, or if there were it was because I ordered too late, so I had to do another option.

As it is, I’ll probably look at another option for next year. Sending cakes from Ireland (republic) within Ireland (eg nearby) costs an absolute fortune but that might be my only option (I did look into this last year). In fact the lovely mother of a friend of mine lives there in the next village (but travels to England to see her daughters at Christmas) so I’ll ask if she’ll get a cake for me for next year and drop it round if I pay her (and extra on top).

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius - about a year or two ago before Brexit anyway I think I ordered a special hamper to go to South Korea from Fortnums. It went via DHL and they tried a few times and couldn’t deliver it. I got a bottle of champagne from them as an apology but wasn’t impressed with DHL and Fortnums. If you check reviews this has happened a few times with overseas deliveries with Fortnums. Certainly not using them for overseas deliveries again.
