I love Hark the Herald Angels sing. Very rousing and uplifting.

Oh yes I LOVE Cradled in a Manger Meanly!

Oh holy night has to be sung by a choir. If it's done by a single singer it just sounds cheesy.

I love carol of the bells too.

Love that bit in Home Alone that has both!

The Halle Choir with Stephen Bell version makes the hair on my arms stand on end, and brings tears to mine eyes! Truly Magnificent.

Monkeytennis97 · 22/12/2022 21:50

In the Bleak Midwinter the Darke version not Holst.

ForestLilac · 22/12/2022 21:50

I’m going to through this thread with a cup of tea and Spotify in the next few days. A few mentioned I’ve never even heard of.

Avrenim · 22/12/2022 21:52

Not sure if it's a carol, but Mary Did You Know is lovely

Love it. My Alexa's most requested song at the moment.

AFigmentOfMyOwnImagination · 22/12/2022 22:00

o holy night

Tulipvase · 22/12/2022 22:06

not a carol but I like Soul cake by Sting

Also love Gaudete and Carol if the bells.

I always feel a bit torn as I’m an atheist ( but raised as a catholic) but I love a good carol!

Violinist64 · 22/12/2022 22:07

The Sussex Carol. Also The Zither Carol.

MissFancyDay · 22/12/2022 22:29

I also love "Oh come, Oh come, Emmanuel" it starts with one voice then builds. It's absolutely beautiful.

It's lovely sung traditionally but Enya's version is truly magical, I am not religious but it sounds like heaven should sound.

I love Come See a Rose That Springeth and Adam Lay Ybounden.

In The Bleak Midwinter is so gorgeous. The high note on "give my heart" never fails to make me choke up.

Honeyroar · 22/12/2022 22:32

God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen

RainBow725 · 22/12/2022 22:32

I am in good company here. My favourites have all been mentioned - Shepherd's Farewell, In the bleak midwinter (Darke), O Holy Night - although classic fm are playing some awful versions of it this year. And Carol of the Bells - but it's hard not to sing "give a, give a, give a, give a Garmin" 😁

CalmConfident · 22/12/2022 22:37

While Shepherds watched but to the tune of On Ilkley Moor Bar Tat

That's the line that gets me every time 😢

Alot have already been mentioned, but one of my favourites is Still, still, still sung by Bryn Terfel.

TheHauntedPencilCase · 22/12/2022 23:00

So many but I get the calypso carol as a welcome earworm throughout the year

Staticgirl · 24/12/2022 19:41

I have loved Coventry Carol, Gaudete and In The Bleak Midwinter since I was little (any version of ITBM as I like all of them). More recently I have really fallen in love with the Cherry Tree Carol and the Wexford Carol.

SoShallINever · 24/12/2022 19:59

Mary did you know? My sons choir does a version that makes me cry. Stunning.

Janedownourlane · 24/12/2022 20:19

Love the calypso carol, also Hark the Herald Angels… I belt out the descant much to DH’s dismay (I can’t sing 😂) but I don’t care, it brings me joy!

DuchessOfDisco · 24/12/2022 22:06

Silent night is my absolute favourite carol.
followed by carol of the bells and in the bleak midwinter.
I prefer the more reflective, peaceful carols as opposed to the lively uplifting ones.
I’ve never heard Coventry carol though, will need to look that one up

GettingStuffed · 24/12/2022 22:32

Tua Bethlem dre, one of my favourites from school
