Help, what the hell going on with Argos

Hi, ordered son a phone on 15 December (realise a bit late for xmas shopping, but I was a bit cash strapped earlier) via one of those click and collect options on their website, where it said it would be available yesterday at 9.00 am. Still no sign today, a day later, my account just tells me to 'sit tight, it will be ready for collection between 20 and 26 December'! 😡 Really no idea what to do now, should I just go in and cancel, get refunded on my card and try to buy a phone locally, bet stock everywhere is really low too. Or do I hold on for a couple of days? I'm in Northern Ireland, anyone else being shagged about like this.

Lesson to all, if you feel the present is important and to someone important, don't forget Christmas day as I can recall is always on 25th Dec and to order it a few days before that, well,

I hope you get sorted out but I would be prepared to buy elsewhere and fight to get your money back from Argos. This happened to me last year with a cheapish toy for my niece. Ordered for immediate collection in store then got email saying it would be a couple of days. Popped into the store as I was in town anyway to be told some cock and bull story about a lorry breaking down so stock didn't arrive when it should. No worries - waited until day they said it would arrive - no text with collection code so went to store thinking they'd just forgotten to send it. No toy had arrived - then another story that another person had ordered at exactly the same time but their's went through the system first so they were having to wait on stock arriving again for mine. No apology or offer of a refund. I phoned, emailed and got nowhere other than made to feel it was my fault for not waiting patiently until they deigned to supply the item. I eventually gave up after around 3 weeks of this carry on and got a refund.

Just to add during this whole farce the Argos website said the item was available for immediate collection at the same store....

I have never been back and every time I pass the store it is empty - gone are the days of queueing for ages in Argos to get your stuff. I think their days are numbered.

If you can buy it in Currys do that, then wait and see if the Argos one shows up, and if it does, return the Currys one.

I've just done a bit of a panic 'Click and collect' with Boots. Bloody thing wouldn't let me log into my account on my laptop but I managed on my phone. Should be ready to collect by Friday. If not, will just have to put my big girl pants on and shop in-store.

I did my usual, started present shopping in June/July!

Tesco usually have a good selection of Samsung phones in store.

There was something weird going on at local Argos on Sunday. Store seemed open but security weren't letting anyone in so I assumed computers were down.

BlackCatTabbyCat · 21/12/2022 21:44

Just wanted to say I returned stuff in Argos on Sunday and the money was in my account by Monday afternoon. Hope you manage to get sorted!

hellycat · 21/12/2022 21:48

Thank you, as I said upthread, I have never had this problem with Argos before, if something is ordered it usually arrives, or is there when they say it will be. They do seem to be having problems so why don't they just admit to it?!

I think most businesses are having difficulties this year TBF.

Yes - there were very aggressive lockdowns in China through autumn which may be to blame. God knows what will happen now the policy is abandoned and Covid is rampant. It's all such a mess.
