Christmas tip for the Post person

If you tip yours, how much do you give? I’m wondering if £5 is ok.

They soon mount up and quite right too, they deserve it.

See this is the bit I've been thinking about recently. Lots of people do jobs that pay less/ are arduous/ help people. It's beginning to feel weird or questionable that some people are tipped and some aren't. I realise it's a hang over from service type jobs but that's very much based on hierarchies that don't really exist any more.

I’m beginning to think I’m the odd one out. Lived in this house nearly 6 years and I’ve never laid eyes on out postie. Couldn’t tell you if it was a man or a woman or a rotation of people throughout the week. I’m at work when they are at work.

We see our postie most days as we are retired. He is a great guy and does all kinds of things to help out with parcels and mail. We saw him so much during the lockdowns too - sometimes he was the only person we saw. We gave him 40 pounds last Christmas ( we don't tip the bin men) as we can afford to. I know he gets tipped by just about everyone in the village as he is so well thought of.

I used to tip the bin men, no idea why, just habit. But I caught them emptying my veg compost bin into my black rubbish bin then lying about it and I’m still very annoyed. They’re insanely well paid too, I’ve seen sense.

I think my postie is great. We gave him a card with £10 a couple of days ago.
I am sure that he would have be happy with £5 but we could manage £10 so that’s what we gave.
