Bugger, wrong size!

Dp ordered dd some trainers (band merch). Ordered early, took a while to arrive, he just hid them when they arrived. I went to wrap them last night, and they're the wrong size - 6.5 instead of a 5. If we reorder they'll never get here on time. What would you do? Tempted to buy her a different pair and try to return band ones after Xmas?

Did DP order the wrong size or did the company send the wrong size? If they sent the wrong size perhaps they can send a pair with expedited shipping?

MintJulia · 18/12/2022 07:17

Just return the wrong-sized pair for a refund, and order a new pair separately.

Auntieobem · 18/12/2022 07:19

He says he ordered the right size. Will ask him to contact company and see if they can do anything

Check it’s not American sizing, an American 6.5 might equate to a 5. I’ve made that mistake before!

ISeeTrees · 18/12/2022 07:36

Yeah I was going to say what @Scrabblequeen said- triple check you're looking at the UK size, this has nearly caught me out a few times

Auntieobem · 18/12/2022 07:43

No, its definitely a UK 6.5, euro 40.

So what's worse, no trainers christmas day with explanation, wrong size trainers to open and then explain, or different ones with explanation that she'll get the others afterwards?? She's 19 BTW, so not (in theory) a child!

19? With a week until Christmas, I’d wrap up the wrong size ones so she gets the experience of opening them etc, then have a quiet word and just say “sorry they’re actually the wrong size, so we’re going to sort it after Christmas”.

ChristmasCwtch · 18/12/2022 07:55

Agree, I’d wrap them and give to her. She knows the good intention then.

If the seller made a mistake, ask them to send the correct pair with next day delivery!! I’ve just had an incorrect item delivered and asked for Tracked 24 first thing tomorrow!!

Good luck.

Follycastle · 18/12/2022 08:01

I really wouldn’t wrap them and let her them! She will be excited only to then be disappointed afterwards - knowing she “has” them but can’t wear them, I think is quite unfair.

If you can’t get the new ones sorted before Christmas and she has other gifts to open, just explain what has happened (I would do this before Christmas Day) and promise you’ll sort it. Agree with PPs though you should push for expedited delivery on correct size.

Follycastle · 18/12/2022 08:02

*let her open them

AgnesNaismith · 18/12/2022 08:04

What are they? There are still shops delivering…

Roselilly36 · 18/12/2022 08:08

Get onto the store you ordered from, there should be enough time to get it resolved before Christmas, especially if it’s the suppliers error.

Auntieobem · 18/12/2022 08:08

Panic over. I'd wrapped them already but decided to unwrapp to double check before contacting company. Looks like right size shoes in wrong box (box says 6.5, shoe says 5...)

Just seen your update, 😅 I hope DD loves them.

00100001 · 18/12/2022 08:15

Are they new?? Weird they're in the wrong box.

She 19, not 9.... She would have been fine to live without wearing them for a free days... Confused

I just wouldn’t give someone a gift they can’t use?! What is the point? She’s 19 not 9 so mature enough to understand the mistake without needing to open a proxy gift.

Anyway, very pleased to hear the update OP!

Auntieobem · 18/12/2022 08:54

Yes, v weird about the box. They're from EMP

Isn't it a bit risky buying footwear for someone as a gift? What if they were really uncomfortable?

I take a size 6, but not all size 6 shoes are comfy or fit well on me.

FabFitFifties · 18/12/2022 09:31

What a relief for you, so pleased. For those saying she's 19 not nine, you'll still be having little panics like this, when your little ones are teens. My DS is panicking because her DD's DM's aren't here yet, and she's 28 🤶

I buy shoes online all the time for DH & DS’s no way would they go shopping 😂

mam0918 · 18/12/2022 16:06

The trainers I bought DH say 11.5 on the box but are actually 10s... I think they are an american company but it catches me out with a second of panic everytime even though I should be use to it.
