Christmas presents

Hi, just after some advice please. Hopefully no judgement here..

I’ve never really had a close/good relationship with my parents. This has only got more distant as I’ve grown older, despite living in the same village I rarely see them/speak to them unless I pick up the phone or visit. We never really have anything to talk about. I also have a son they only see if I have to ask in an emergency to pick him up from nursery.

Anyway it is what it is, hard to get your head around I know but it’s the norm for me. My fathers parents were the same so I guess it’s normal to my parents. Not asking for sympathy here.

Every Christmas they spend a lot of money on presents and act like they care for one day only, it’s really bizarre. This year I have said I really can’t afford to buy presents and I won’t be buying for anybody. A few people are saying I can’t go empty handed so looking for very cheap gift/gifts that won’t break the bank, however nothing too sentimental or lovely dovey as we don’t have this type of relationship.

Thanks

What's your budget?

Firsttimemuma1 · 17/12/2022 20:56

£20 max.

Can I add they don’t have hobbies or socialise much. Like the odd drink but not big drinkers.

I'd go for a scarf and chocolates for your mum.

A bottle of whiskey for your dad.

Cheese and crackers and a nice bottle of wine.

Wine and chocolates or cheese platter with crackers
Small bottle of Baileys with chocolates
An M&S hyacinth or other bulbs that are already planted up in decorative ceramic pots

I have a very similar relationship with my parents. If I didn't call themevery now and then I doubt we would ever speak. They are getting a bottle of wine each and a cheeseboard and cheeses.

I'd get crafting with your son and make them a gift x
