Is this normal I ordered a very expensive console online but missed delivery today, I’m in ALL day but whenever dpd deliver it seems to be conveniently on the school run! Anyway they text me to say they will now deliver it tomorrow to my local shop, I never agreed to this and wouldn’t as it states I need ID to collect which I don’t have any photo I’d and also I don’t know the shop and don’t want an expensive console delivered there, i have never had any company do this I’m on hold to them now but it’s taking forever, is this normal? Half an hour on hold Already

They would have given you the delivery slot in advance, and the option to deliver the next day also if not in? Normally you chose your delivery places the day before, you probably got an email from DPD outlining that the item was dispatched and to chose your delivery preferences. It probably needed a signature hence no safe place and a shop is the only option. The shops are DPD approved and accept DPD parcels and drop offs. I’m sure you’ll be able to get round the photo ID issue

SpinningFloppa · 15/12/2022 15:52

No there was no option to chose other than Friday like I said I’m in all day I only go out for the school run it never asked if I agreed to send it to a shop (I ordered it from smyths)

Seems to be a new thing they have started which automatically defaults to shop pick up if not in. Had same earlier this week no time given for delivery and someone was in all day said could not deliver and had to collect from store.

SpinningFloppa · 15/12/2022 15:55

i thought it was 3 missed deliveries then sent back, I don’t want to collect it from a corner shop and never agreed to that there wasn’t even that option on smyths

You usually don't need photo Id, a bank card with matching name should be enough. Well it is where I am.

PestorPeston · 15/12/2022 16:00

Bank card, utility bill, birth certificate, all of the above.

ttcnumber2x · 15/12/2022 16:02

Normally the shop just let me show a bank card and barely look at it so I wouldn't panic until you've gone and they said you can't have the parcel

loobylou44 · 15/12/2022 16:08

Same happened to me and they delivered to a store miles away from where I live. That was despite there being at least 3 stores within walking distance from where I live!

Saturdaydreamingway2355555 · 15/12/2022 16:09

If you get the DPD ap, set your preferences. Any delivery in your name will default to your preferences

We have lots of brilliant delivery drivers - we love rurally so know them all individually. There is one DPD driver (there are 4 in total but other 3 are great) who ALWAYS leaves the parcels at a local shop, last time I collected parcel the manager was raging - they had over 60 parcels dumped in their delivery bay. This one driver is dumping all the parcels without attempting delivery. Unsurprisingly the shop banned them being dropped and so now he dumps them 11 MILES away! 2 buses and a 3/4 mile walk on public transport. Unbelievable.

They changed to one attempt and then delivering to a shop nowhere near your house 'for your convenience' during covid and haven't changed back. I had discussions with them over the summer after a 'missed' delivery when they tried the wrong bloody house on my road. The shop 'near me' is over a mile away and in the opposite direction to the tube so somewhere I'm never remotely near.
If you have the tracking info in advance you can change the delivery day, which is better than nothing, but the one strike and they're done trying service is utterly shit.

pinheadlarry · 16/12/2022 02:29

Same happened to me, different company im still trying find out what shop they've sent it
Usually dpd try a few times before they send it back

SpinningFloppa · 16/12/2022 08:28

Thanks all, I got it in the end and yes the shop was nowhere near me and certainly not my nearest!! I had to walk there in the cold and ice as no buses go near and it was on a hill that was completely icy had to take my children with me when it was an Xmas present for them that I didn’t want them to see 🤦🏻 I will avoid anywhere that uses dpd now as I didn’t know this was a thing with them and it was the first delivery attempt not multiple, personally everyone slates Evri but I’m have never had any trouble with them and they’ve always been very good where I am
