Likelihood of getting a turkey on 27th?

My extended family and I are delaying Christmas get together by a couple of days this year. We are planning on doing an online supermarket shop but wanted to know how likely it is they’ll still have turkeys (frozen or fresh) if we order on Boxing Day?

I’m sure they’ll have plenty of frozen at least, I always see loads after Christmas. Fresh possibly not, they might try and sell them off cheap on Christmas Eve if there are any left.

We used to buy a turkey after Christmas when we were elsewhere for dinner on the 25th. There was usually loads left.

I tried this before when I got back from holiday on 27th but couldn't get one. Luckily I had pre frozen one but I was hoping to get a fresh one.

I think you will get a frozen.

Lollypop701 · 13/12/2022 19:37

Fresh not a chance, they get sold off Christmas Eve latest as they won’t last and won’t be a great sell after Christmas generally. Plus bird flu means not as many. No idea on frozen as not bought one tbh,

I like Turkey for NYD, some years I can't get one.

Get one now and stick it in the freezer?

Tallulasdancingshoes · 13/12/2022 20:42

We always have frozen, I get it now and just keep it in the freezer. A big one usually takes about 2 days to defrost slowly in the garage so you’d need it before Christmas Day anyway.

There is meant to be a shortage this year due to avian flu so may not be many available after Christmas but it is always going to vary a bit by area
