Christmas tree in wooden stump

I’ve bought a real tree this year in a wooden stump - does anyone have any tips for watering/keeping it looking good until Christmas?

Keep it outside as long as you can. Put it in the coldest place you can in the house.

Try to keep it as cool as possible (not by a radiator) and if you are able to keep topping it up with water (it's pretty much like a flower in a vase)

Also once you've decorated, don't touch it! No rearranging or putting presents in the branches. Try not to let people brush past it too much

I don’t think you can water the tree if it’s in a wooden stump. can you invest in a proper stand that holds water? Using one that does means our tree lasts over a month (we’re in Ireland and trees go up at the end of November)

Be sure to put something under the stump to protect your flooring.

I'm not sure what you mean by in a wooden stump.

Ours goes in a (bloody expensive) watering stand. As per previous poster, our non-drop trees happily last from end of November until January. They drink a surprising amount.

Wrap a damp tea towel around the base, where the trunk has been shaved down to go in the hole. I’ve been doing that for years and it keeps it fresh. Don’t bring it inside before 8th Dec if you can.

The Christmas trees we buy come in a wooden stand. You need to pull it out of the stump, or saw it off if needed, then use a proper watering stand if you want it to last!

We put the wooden stump in a bucket of sand and water the sand.

This is the stump - we’ve got a stand but it seems pretty “stuck” in the stump….

Wrap the exposed part in cotton wool or rags and keep them damp. You could probably fashion a little moat out of a thin plastic food punnet. Obviously it's not waterproof but filled with absorbent paper or cotton wool it will hold the water against the tree longer.
