Son had just come home from school and told me that some of his class had Xmas breakfasts this morning as it’s the 1st December and asked why we did not have one… I just did not know this was a thing but it clearly is as today on my Facebook plenty of others doing it. It made me think about Xmas Eve boxes too I just never do those either…. The extra cost etc on top of everything has just always been too much!

Anyway, do any of you do Xmas Eve boxes and if so what do you put in them?

It's like a competition on who can do the least or not be a sucker of consumerism and be proud it's weird. It doesn't have to be about all the new things u buy. I have used same book and orchard toy Christmas eve box for last few years. Last year I put a bag of our hot chocolate and few marshmallows i already had on cupboard. Only thing I brought was 50p colouring book. Which they wasn't really interested in so I'm going to put that in again this year. These traditions don't have to be about spending loads of money.

Mine are all older now but I think its a nice idea.

We have a tradition though (adults) to open a gift a little before Midnight Christmas Eve.

When my DC were little (6 onwards) we would all open a present around 6.00 Christmas Eve evening. Now I have one DC who still lives at Home but we will carry on the tradition.

the type of things that are listed are things that go in a Xmas box is the type of thing which gets put in the stocking with a few extra. My child has an advent calendar and that’s it! I don’t even do elf on the shelf! Rubbish mum here 😕

You're absolutely not a rubbish mum!!! And there is no need for a Christmas eve box if it's not the done thing, just explain to your DC that they are traditions for other families, and you have your own traditions in your family that those other children don't have.

My daughter only has an advent calendar too! Oh, and no elf. Please don't be too hard on yourself.

It's a toy elf that comes out 1st Dec and every day is moved around the house in 'scenes of causes mischief ' up to 25th it seems very faffy and I would just forget to do a day , but some friends love it and get very excited working out what position he going to be
