Do you deep clean before tree goes up

Normally i do.and regularly in the year All cupboards and drawers etc under furniture but last year the day before i cleaned for ages. You know when u have stuff all in the wrong rooms, kids toys etc.

Then by time we emptied loft put tree up etc there was crap everywhere so was pointless doing it in the lounge anyway.
Wondering if not to bother this year and do after.

Nope! Cleaning (whether deep cleaning or a wipe over) is done as and when we have time which feels like never at the moment , but we probably do less than normal at this time of year as it is the busiest time for my work, volunteer work, and social stuff. I feel like my feet barely touch the floor between Oct half term and the schools breaking up for Xmas, so deep cleaning isn't an option!
I do have a DCs' clothes and toy clear out round about now though ready to be sent off to the local pre-Xmas nearly new sale. This is made a priority as otherwise we are at risk of drowning underneath a sea of toys or being crushed when the loft finally gives up and caves in on us!

Deep clean every single year. Then I had kids... hasn't happened since

Shhhh me too 🤫
I can't wait for the posts where people with animals talk about what they do to the tree. Our hamster once got lost in it.

Deep clean = skirtings, door frames, cleaning out each cupboard and drawer etc.

Glad im not the only one

It’s not really a deep clean as such, but we do give the floor a mop/dust everywhere and move things around to make more space. The windows get a clean too.

Montague22 · 24/11/2022 20:33

Yes, I love all the Christmas clutter….but not on a background of mess.

NoWordForFluffy · 24/11/2022 20:34

Yes, I do. I'm doing it tomorrow afternoon. Sorting, tidying and cleaning to make (clean) space for the trees!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/11/2022 21:07

I think I might have a good clean of the skirting boards around where the tree goes because I won't be able to hoover properly and it will annoy me. We've just decluttered the house and garage but I might have another clear. Just to make things feel cosy.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 24/11/2022 21:10

Yes, I deep clean before the trees go up as I change the rooms around and also after I take them all down.

CellarBellaatemycoal · 24/11/2022 21:22

Yes I like to preempt the tsunami of stuff that comes home with the kids at the end of term before the Christmas hols otherwise I feel totally overwhelmed . I usually take a day or two at home to clean and declutter for my sanity before school finishes. For about 45 mins it looks very festive scandi chic, and I feel like Nigella. After this we’re on a fast decline to house of Mr Trebus with glitter and lights.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/11/2022 21:24

I do have a bit of a pre Christmas blitz. I thought a ‘deep’ clean was a term reserved for the likes of operating theatres. I suppose it’s what I’d call a ‘thorough’ clean - inc. the things I don’t usually bother with.

RefuseTheLies · 24/11/2022 21:25

I only deep clean the years my in-laws come to stay for the Christmas period.

BCBird · 24/11/2022 21:26

What is this self inflicted punishment🙄🤣

Cw112 · 24/11/2022 21:27

We would do a deep clean before decorating and then when everything comes down would do a deeper than normal clean, but not the same level of deep clean as what we do before decorating. I just love it when everything is sitting nice the house smells great and all the Christmas lights are on!

Never done this in my life

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 24/11/2022 23:04

I'm conditioned to do this from my mum - she used to have us do this every year when we lived at home.

House gets completely deep cleaned, all woodwork done (and painted if needed), kitchen cupboards cleaned out, all wooden furniture beeswaxed. Fridge deep cleaned, freezer defrosted. All radiators, blinds and inside windows get done, then its the normal cleaning as usual.
Then tree goes up in second weekend in December and its just normal cleaning for rest of December.

But it's just me and OH and I don't work so I've got plenty of time and I quite look forward to it.

Gazelda · 24/11/2022 23:13

Yes, I do. And every year I swear I'll get an agency in to do it next year. But never get organised enough to book it.

I also deep clean before going on holiday.

I get stressed about it and it drives my family potty - they know the week before a holiday and Christmas will be spent walking on eggshells 😆

BooksAndHooks · 24/11/2022 23:18

Yes. Not as deep as the summer before holiday clean, but more thorough than the day to day cleaning.

PeloFondo · 24/11/2022 23:20

I don't think I've ever done a deep clean and I've been in my home for 16 years GrinBlush
Skirtings I do regularly when they need it and cupboards/drawers are usually when I get a surge of energy at 11pm and randomly decide to empty something out
It's clean enough, you won't catch anything but you might spot some cat hair or dust

I'm exhausted reading this. And was also going to ask what a deep clean was!
