Am completely stuck on what to get for DS(12) this year.

He already has a phone/tablet/earbuds, we have ps4, plenty of games. He doesn’t have any hobbies, not into football and isn’t into fashion/branded clothing or trainers.

His interests are very narrow - likes anime and gaming.

He’s asked for a few bits of anime related cosplay which a) the quality looks iffy and b) are from China so may not arrive in time anyway, plus one Lego set which DH isn’t keen to buy due to lack of storage space.

Any suggestions welcomed

tickets to go to a Cosplay event?
If he's into gaming does he have VR (although appreciate its quite pricey?)
something to do with coding / robotics?
Its a tough age isn't it?

Get him to do an Amazon wish list. So much easier if they don’t have specific interests
I’d tell him the anime stuff won’t get here in time. Sure someone else will be able to help with better quality stuff if you post a separate thread.

I’d get the Lego as he’s asked for it. It gives them something to do over Christmas.

Mine sounds similar to yours. At that age the presents he liked best were;
Himalayan salt lamp to counteract all the negative ions from the computer ( also looks pretty).
Posters
LED strip lights for round his computer desk
New desk chair
Japanese sweets and snacks
Mini screwdriver heads for taking computers apart/rebuilding

Vans have a one piece or one punch manga collaboration on (can never remember the difference🙄) also Uniqlo have manga collaborations on soon - Naruto I think. My son likes smiley 😊 face products so got him some of those slippers for his stocking.

Gaming magazine subscription

Same problem here. Ds12 wishes a Lego set, squismallow and gaming pc. He is not going to get pc but I got that specific squismallow from eBayand got the Lego set too. Other than that he is getting switch game, book and wallet.

Metal detector... Novelty, unusual, gets them outside?

jakesmommy · 24/11/2022 13:03

My 12 year old is into the anime One Piece, I have bought him a One Piece calendar and a fabric flag he can hang on his wall from Amazon, EMP has a lot of Anime related merch as well.

Great idea! We have a huge park next door but he's a homebody. This might get him out there.
My DS has asked for a VR headset but they're way too expensive. We're getting him a lego set, a few books. He loves anime and graphic novels so we've ordered a couple from america. I like the idea of LED lights for around his desk. Might look for some of those too.

Dustinsdart · 24/11/2022 19:32

Thanks for all the suggestions.

@anoldcharter ooh cosplay event great idea! I’ll suss that out - we’re up north so might have to travel for that. VR headset is a bit too £££ unfortunately, although I’m sure he’d love one.

@lightisnotwhite I’ll probably get the Lego (then talk DH round later😁) and like the LED lights idea

@GriseldaClement he’s really into Naruto so I’ll take a look at Uniqlo thanks!

@jakesmommy thanks I’ll look at EMP

Aftershave ds liked Invictus at 12/13?

Hellocatshome · 24/11/2022 20:32

If he's into Anime how about a Japanese sweet/treats box. I have made a Pokemon one for DS. I ordered the sweets, drinks etc online then added a few Pokemon bits and bobs and wrote his name in Japanese on the top of the box.

Kerzehmet · 24/11/2022 20:45

If a VR headset is outside budget what about tickets to a VR gaming place? Not sure what you have nearby but in our areas there is a large one at the snowdome at Milton Keynes plus a small
Independent one in a local town. There must be similar up north?

We have got a few lights which plug into the computer via a USB port. One looks like a light box and says "gaming in progress" it was from Argos. The other is a mini plasma globe. And we have an LED strip light with a cardboard peg board and pegs so that he can make his own word and hang the light up (battery powered). I have also bought a cheap architect's/engineer's pen from B&M, it is triangular so as not to roll off a desk and has a spirit level, 2 screwdriver heads, stylus, ballpoint pen and a ruler. Hopefully he will like it.

Also it's not a present for this year but a year or so ago DH bought a kit to make an Arduino remote controlled robot and he helped DS to make this, they both really enjoyed doing it
