Theatre tickets for parents

Does anyone have any suggestions for a show I can take my parents to? In London.

They like most things (although nothing too highbrow) and we've gone to a lot of the bigger ones like Wicked/Book of Mormon/Hamilton.

Really struggling!

Ooh some good ideas (and some I want to see for myself!).

Come from away and witness for the prosecution look good. Intrigued by Noises Off although not a fan of TAO!

A friend in real life also recommended Six - if anyone else is looking for ideas.

I wasn't a fan of Six - good concept, but just awful songs. Very sub-Spice Girls, and it's basically a pop concert not proper musical theatre. Tbh, I was the wrong demographic as it was full of very enthusiastic teenage girls 😂

It’s tonight!
I am finally getting to see Come From Away TONIGHT!
I will report back!

Comefromaway · 24/11/2022 18:11

Welcome to the Rock

Jfw82 · 24/11/2022 18:25

Back to the future the musical - me and DH loved it

erinaceus · 24/11/2022 19:51

Oh wow! Have a great time!

222 a ghost story is brilliant!

I agree! I took my dd in the summer when Tom Felton was playing, it was brilliant

Trumpton · 24/11/2022 22:02

Well ….Come From Away was amazing. A total delight.
I wish I could see it again.

Comefromaway · 24/11/2022 22:04

I need to try and fit in a 3rd visit before it closes. Lucky Dd has covered several shifts there so seen it multiple times.

NameChangeForARaisin · 24/11/2022 22:15

Seen most of them, Comefromaway was by far the best and the cheapest.

absolutelyknackeredcow · 24/11/2022 22:31

Have seen most shows in the West End
Come from away and Hamilton are stunning but obviously musicals
Christmas Carol at old vic is beautiful and still has tickets
'Witness' is amazing at county hall - if you can push the boat out and get jury seats that would be really memorable.
'Best of enemies' is supposed to be excellent - going shortly
'Six' is one of my all time favourite but more like a concert

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 24/11/2022 23:07

To Kill a Mockingbird was absolutely fantastic - and they've just changed the main actor to Matthew Modine so we're going to rewatch it.

Kinky Boots was also brilliant.

I'm taking my dad to see Noises Off which is on from January to March next year with Felicity Kendall, Tracey Ann Oberman and Matthew Kelly (who was very good in something we saw a couple of years ago). It's apparently really funny. (Please nobody tell me it's rubbish if you disagree, I've got the tickets already and we'll make our own minds up!)

That is a brilliant play and what a cast! I want to see it again now, just to see them in it. I love Tracey Ann Oberman.

AnnPerkins · 25/11/2022 10:00

So glad you think so! I'm really looking forward to taking Dad now.

PassThePud · 25/11/2022 10:41

@AnnPerkins I saw that production at Richmond, it was brilliant.

SIX is great if you are a mid-teen girl. I saw it twice and will go a third time as DD gets tickets for Christmas - again. She is addicted and has done several of the songs in her musical class in school.
I think the concept is great if you don't see it as a classical musical.
I think my mum or my PIL would be not keen on going.

StrawberryPot · 25/11/2022 13:14

Am going to get tickets to see Noises Off now on the basis of this thread!

Great idea to start the thread op. It's so expensive going to the theatre - good to get some honest reviews!

I find it quite disheartening that there are so many musicals on in London. I prefer a good play!

Tidsleytiddy · 25/11/2022 13:58

I don’t think you can beat Les Mis. Make you laugh, make you cry. It’s incredible

StrawberryPot · 25/11/2022 14:12

@Tidsleytiddy
Totally agree. I love it and am planning to go for a third time.

StrawberryPot · 25/11/2022 14:16

If anyone is planning a London theatre trip, there are some excellent Black Friday deals at the moment. So don't hang about. I've just got a big reduction on some really good seats.

wouldthatbeworse · 25/11/2022 21:10

Back to the future?

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 26/11/2022 23:48

So pleased that Witness for the Prosecution has rave reviews as we are off to see it on Christmas Eve! Not jury seats but from seatplan still look ace.

Loved Moulin Rouge & Harry Potter this year.

Unicorn2022 · 27/11/2022 00:02

I saw Only Fools and Horses a few weeks ago and it was a brilliant feel good show, if that might interest your parents

mummyof2boys30 · 27/11/2022 06:55

Another vote for back to the future the musical. Was absolutely amazing
