Suggestions for DH

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 21/11/2022 14:27

My DH has a special birthday right after Christmas and I am looking for suggestions for presents for both. I already have a jacket (that he asked for) and will probably get a few chocs and maybe some nice coffee. We have two DC and one is too small for babysitter so a special dinner out is not yet possible.

he likes: nature, birds, stars, outdoors, coffee, nice food, cooking, art

doesn’t like: football, star wars, beers, jewellery (all things I have seen on xmas presents list for men), gadgets

Doesn’t care much about new clothes. Reads books on kindle and music on apps. We have Echos etc. Has airpods and an apple watch. We also have RHS and NT memberships.

Sorry i think this is a difficult one! 🤔

Sounds similar to DH.

An aero press? Trip to a roastery? Telescope? DH always likes a few nights away if he doesn’t have to organise it! Walking boots? Does he like water sports- a SUP was a great gift for DHs birthday. We also got solar lights and solar chargers for bike lights.

I’ve got him the dressing gown from the London Edition after we stayed there last year and loved it.

He sounds a lot like my DH. Presents that have been a hit over the years-

ooni pizza oven? Fire pit?

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 21/11/2022 14:39

@LeafHunter I was thinking about the Ooni actually. Do you have one?

some great ideas thanks everyone

Kindling cracker (if you have a use for kindling)

Aero press

Really good coffee thermos (Klean Kanteen a favourite of my DH)

Cooking pan - a proper wok, a le creuset shallow casserole (more useful IMO than the big one).

Constellation finder.

Following a my DH is very hard to buy for. Biggest success was an Attache case with his initials embossed!

We do - hugely recommend.

A cookery course?
A bird box with a camera in it?

I once gave dh a book of something to look forward to every month for the next year. Some were dinners, some were cinema trips, art galleries. I bought tickets in advance for several things. If you look up art exhibitions and cinema releases that will sort quite a few of the months.

YorkieTheRabbit · 21/11/2022 16:11

Wildlife camera for the garden
Good bottle of whiskey or Cognac if he would enjoy it
Quality kitchen knife set

MedievalNun · 21/11/2022 16:14

really good binoculars if he's a bird lover with one of those books listing species, but with space for you to record date/time/place when you spot it.

Good coffee maker & a subscription

polmnlj · 21/11/2022 16:23

Astronomy binoculars

CornishGem1975 · 21/11/2022 16:36

We have the dual fuel Ooni, my DH loves it.

Vargas · 21/11/2022 17:46

Zwitscherbox. Recommended by a friend, I've just bought one for DH (and myself :-) ).

Ginius · 21/11/2022 18:42

This was recommended last year, DH really enjoyed it.

Also, a whiskey subscription - you just get a small pouch of whiskey a month, so enough for a drink or two so you don't end up with too much alcohol hanging about.

If he likes coffee and walks, does he have a decent thermos? We love are contigo west loop flasks, can chuck in a bag any way up and never leaks.

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 21/11/2022 19:08

So many great suggestions thanks!
we have an aeropress and great coffee machine, binoculars and telescope. He is not a fan of trips away vouchers, going out vouchers etc. and had a thermos he loves.

(sorry I know this is a tough one)

considering an Ooni pizza oven and maybe a bird box. Maybe also the whisky subscription. I know he doesn’t want a coffee subscription, as too much change etc.
