frozendaisy · 20/11/2022 08:42

Pickled onions, traditional and sweet.

Crunchy salad bits with left over meats and cheeses. Bread. Leave it at that. To be honest we're usually still quite full.

Crackers.

Tangerines.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/11/2022 08:48

Staples will usually be cold turkey and gammon, coleslaw (home made) , baguettes and butter, pickled onions, chutney, probably jacket potatoes, and a macaroni pie. Which is much like macaroni cheese, only with eggs, and baked in the oven, so it sets and can be cut into squares.

Plus a cheeseboard, mince pies, fruit.

Fufumcgoo · 20/11/2022 08:54

Boxing day buffet-dinner is my fav 😍 better than Christmas Dinner.

@Fivemoreminutes1 the slaw and tart look good

MrsMontyD · 20/11/2022 11:55

I'm doing buffets on Christmas Eve (just us) and Christmas Day (at least one guest) both will be similar/same and as usual I'll try not to go OTT and still put out far too much food.

We're eating out for Christmas day lunch so there won't be leftovers, but I'll roast a ham on Christmas Eve as usual.

Honey Roast Ham Joint
Nice bread (some homemade)
Coleslaw
Philadelphia with sweet chilli sauce
Cheeseboard with nuts, grapes etc.
Crackers/cheese biscuits
Quiche
Mini scotch eggs (DDs favourite)
Hummus and something to dip
Olives, pickles etc.
mince pies, Christmas Cake and whatever I've baked.

Christmas Day I'm going to do a whole baked Brie or Camembert in a bread wreath to make it not just a repeat of Christmas Eve.

I'm going steady on desserts this year, I will probably make a cheesecake in addition to the usual mince pies, Christmas cake and gingerbread biscuits.

Lindengericht · 20/11/2022 12:20

I love spring rolls as well

pinkksugarmouse · 20/11/2022 14:16

Check if you have vegans but don’t worry if you do. There are loads of plant based options in ordinary Supermarkets now and they will be labelled as vegan. They will help you through no vegan guest would just leave a non vegan host to figure it out.

Dips are usually popular hummus, guacamole, etc with breadsticks and chopped veggies.

Mini spring rolls, mini samosas, pakoras, bhajis, some sweet mango dip for them easy to buy at the deli.

Hot or cold pizza slices

Pasta salad, rice salad (you don’t have to make them) you can buy them.

Fruit makes a nice option grape’s especially maybe some little satsumas or clementines preferably seedless.

If you do some cold plain new potatoes anyone can have them and add dips

Heck get a Colin cake (or similar) not just for grown ups. Or maybe some pain au chocolate or other pastries.

Make sure if you are making a lot you get some containers to either store yourself or send guests home with so you don’t have any waste. Or ask them to bring their containers. Everyone is waste conscious now they will be happy to clean you out. 🤣

FrogletandMe · 20/11/2022 17:14

I'm glad to see this thread.

We're hosting this year and I am looking for ideas.

Watapalava · 20/11/2022 17:48

Less is definitely more

Maple ham
flavoured potatoes
coleslaw
salad
cheese crackers biscuits
cheesecake

unless it’s a party I don’t bother with nibbles and sticks etc as no one eats them

Boxing Day is the day I take it easy with food

Watapalava · 20/11/2022 17:49

Basically I make my buffet feel more like a meal

that way it feels fancier and less child like plus cheaper generally too

Tinks15 · 20/11/2022 19:36

Thanks all some nice ideas here. I don’t want to go too mad as I know some people go easy Boxing Day but at the same time I just want to make sure I put on a nice little spread & I have something for everyone.
