Games for 9 year old

Please ideas for games for 9 year old.
But it needs to be 2 player games or more
Most of the time it's just me and her.
We've got the usual. Uno. Cluedo. Rummikub. Junior monopoly. Ludo. Snakes and ladders. Don't want Labyrinth.
She still likes a couple of the younger ones eg orchard ladybird game.

Also is Santa's rooftop scramble a good game?
Can it be played with 2?

Ideas welcome

Avocado Smash is quite funny. Plus normal cards?

PuttingDownRoots · 18/11/2022 21:46

Genius Square
Chess?

HarrietSchulenberg · 18/11/2022 21:48

Boggle's good.
We've also tweaked Pictionary to play with just 2.

carefulcalculator · 18/11/2022 21:50

Patchwork (2 players only)
Fluxx (pick one she would like, so many versions)
Carcassonne

PhotoDad · 18/11/2022 21:51

Forbidden Island. Great with 2, takes 30 minutes, and it's co-operative (you work as a team to try to beat the game). Slightly more complex than the ones you list but not by much!

Mummysgonetobed · 18/11/2022 21:51

5 second rule junior is fab!

carefulcalculator · 18/11/2022 21:52

Oh yes - Forbidden Island a great suggestion!

Genius Square
Chess?

I've just had a look at genius square, not heard of it before.
Is it hard or ok?

Is pictionary ok with 2 then?
I have played it before but I think it's been years so it's hard to remember

Taco, cat, goat, cheese, pizza - card game that 2-8 players (I think). Like snap, but crazier.
Blokus.
Ticket to ride- junior edition

Sometimes its easy, other times its a lit harder! But each round takes only a few minutes.

My 11yo still loves it, weve had it since first lockdown.

HarrietSchulenberg · 18/11/2022 21:58

I can't remember the actual rules but we tweaked so if the guesser got the answer right they got 1 point and the drawer got 2. Bonus point given to guesser if guessed correctly in under 1 min.
TBH most games ended in a dead heat but they were fun.

I remember looking at this last year but discounted it cos it says 3 players on it?

I’d go for ticket to ride (but the normal, not junior) edition.

At 9 my DS loved Monster Madness. It’s a dungeon and dragons based card game.

Exploding kittens is a current hit here but I don’t think it’s as good with 2 as with more people.

Quirkle might suit too.

AppleCreamSlice · 18/11/2022 22:20

Dobble?

melissasummerfield · 18/11/2022 22:22

Dobble, grabelo & guess who ?

sanityisamyth · 18/11/2022 22:23

DS loves Dobble and there are different versions.

purpleme12 · 18/11/2022 22:29

Thank you everyone, lots to look at.
Haven't played any of these so don't know them

Forgot to mention, I'm not particularly keen on Double myself so not keen to get that one!

So if I get Ticket to Ride round it be proper one or junior one?

Anything by the exploding kittens people. Poetry for neanderthals for example

At age 9, get the proper one IMO.

Sassysally6969 · 18/11/2022 22:37

Can’t beat a bit of spin the bottle. We also love to play poker at Christmas xx

Ridingladybugs · 18/11/2022 22:39

Sleeping queens is OK with 2 ( she says having had to play it endlessly!). Quite simple.

My 8 year olds current fave is also taco goat cheese pizza - but if you don’t like dobble you may not like it. It’s very simple ( I quite enjoy it because of this!).

Otherwise what about a pack of cards and traditional card games - I’m lucky a neighbour has taught DS but he prefers playing simple card games than board games now.

SuperstarDJsherewego · 18/11/2022 22:39

Ticket to ride
quirkle
carcassonne

at 9 I’d get the normal version of ticket to ride, my 5 year old is just starting to get into it

APurpleSquirrel · 18/11/2022 22:41

Pickle Letter
Reef
Colour Brain / Junior Colour Brain / Disney Colour Brain
Throw Throw Burrito

purpleme12 · 18/11/2022 22:49

Ah we've got Colour Brain that was a good find actually she likes that.

I'll have a look at the others
